Billy Idol Returns
Break out the wedding dresses, everybody's favorite rebel yeller is back!

December 06, 2004 - Apparantly fed up with the plethora of cute, pop punk boy bands saturating the music scene, former Generation X frontman and solo artist in his own right, Billy Idol, has decided to return to music after a 10 year hiatus.

"Enough!" screamed Idol recently, "2005 is the time for an original punk rocker to show his stuff." After taking himself out of the music business "to regenerate, get free of myself and make an album for the right reasons," Billy Idol has completed his first album featuring new songs in over a decade.

The new album, entitled Devil's Playground, is scheduled for release on March 22, 2005 on CSP Records/Sanctuary Records. The first single to be released from the album is called "Scream," and prominantly features the signature guitar wailing of long time Idol cohort Steve Stevens. It is set to impact radio on January 31. Additionally, Idol will be filming a cutting edge video for "Scream" and attempt to recapture his onscreen glory (old school music fans will remember the Idol dominated the MTV airwaves in the mid-'80s with high concept imagery).

Despite not having recorded an album in over 10 years, Idol has been keeping one foot in the music world. He and his band--Steve Stevens, new drummer Brian Tichy, bassist Stephen McGrath and keyboardist Derek Sherinian--have been playing a few select gigs across the country recently. Interestingly enough, it was after a concert at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York last year, that Idol was approached by Sanctuary Group Inc. USA CEO Merck Mercuriadis, who asked him if he was ready to record "a great Billy Idol album." After thinking long and hard, Idol signed on the dotted line and began crafting Devil's Playground, with he and the band entering the studio this past April with long time producer Keith Forsey.

Idol and band will embark on a worldwide tour in March 2005 in support of the new record.

its only been 10 years? I thought it was more like 20.

Have to admit, the song sounds pretty good!

I always did like his stuff. Sounds like I'll be making a music purchase in March.

the 80s are making a huge comback right now, he'd be smart to cash in on a big money tour like Motley is doing heh

cheap seats for the MC show in chicago were over 80 bucks

Glad to hear he's still at it.

You ever heard Idol's version of LA Woman?....Not a bad remake....It moves a bit more than the Doors version....

I might have to check that out. B.I. was good in the 80's.

Finally heard the new album, isn't bad....has some heavy rock tunes on it, some punk a few slow songs and what sounds like alternative mixed with grunge, yet has some guitar riffs thrown about...A bit different than his normal stuff..
