Cat-Backs, what are they really worth HP wise?

Really depends on the car and the pipes you get. I've got an article where Grassroots Motorsports tested cat-backs on a Jetta - gains seemed to be from 1 to 4 hp depending on which one they went with. However, some of the first tests had been done with a manifold so restrictive that they couldn't get any power out of a cat-back, so they had to swap on a better manifold to get any results.

I know there are dynographs riddled through www.svtperformance.com showing improvements in exhaust systems.

The '03-04 Cobra's exhaust AND Air Inlet are super-restrictive to get the car through noise emission tests.


Swap out those two parts and you'll gain approx. 30 rwhp.

catbacks and CAI are netting about 30rwhp on the goats with tuning. throw LTs on there and your looking at 50hp for intake/headers/catback and a tune...

the turbo back (Down pipe, cat, + cat back)
is worth 18-22 on the dyno on the 1.8T motor
