I.T. / Network Guys - Question

I'm stumped & frustrated. Maybe you guys could help me out.

Random computers on our network (mostly WAN and VPN) can't 'find' our exchange server without us having to modify the HOSTS file to 'tell' the computer where to find it. Sometimes doing a IPConfig /flushdns & /registerdns works, but usually not. The computers have no problem 'finding' other servers on the network. If we try to ping the exchange server, it tries to ping what looks like a public IP address.

Any clues?

It's going to be a real pain if we ever have to change the IP of the Mail server...having to reconfigure all of the users' HOSTS files.

My guess would be to thouroughly check the exchange server, 9 times out of 10 its somthing stupid or simple.

You have to set the DNS gateway on the host computer to accecpt xon/off request in the IPX/SPX protocol from the guest. Once you've done that make sure your router has the proper ports locked for the data xsfer thorugh the flux core. Make sure the core latecncy is under 20ms. Its it set over that the packet will bounce back to the guest.

If that dosen't work try kicking it.

Yes, it is running webmail. I'll have to see if the webmail IP matches the one the computers are trying to ping.
