Should Children Witness Childbirth?
Due to a power outage, only one paramedic responded to the call. The house was very, very dark, so the paramedic asked Katelyn, a 3-year-old girl, to hold a flashlight high over her mommy so he could see while he helped deliver the baby. Very diligently, Katelyn did as she was asked.
Heidi pushed and pushed, and after a little while Connor was born. The paramedic lifted him by his little feet and spanked him on his bottom. Connor began to cry. The paramedic then thanked Katelyn for her help and asked the wide-eyed 3-year old what she thought about what she had just witnessed.
Katelyn quickly responded, "He shouldn't have crawled in
there in the first place, smack his butt again."

We have been anxiously waiting for the day that we could offer you a First Period Kit to be proud of. After much searching and testing we think we have one that has the perfect combination!!!
A girl's first menstruation is such an exciting and beautiful time in life. Here at Birth With Sol we felt that beginning the journey into womanhood, another birth experience, deserves to be honored and celebrated with joy and pride! It is so vital to pass down to our girls the importance of pride and appreciation for our womanly bodies, and celebrating the first menses is a great way to start. So many young girls don't have a positive attitude about being on their moon only because that is all they hear from their peers. At first, she may act like it's no big deal, but we'd be willing to bet that she will remember and appreciate the celebration for the rest of her life! We want to do our small part in helping to change those negative attitudes!
In addition to giving one of our First Period Kits, there are many ways to celebrate. Get all dressed up, give her a single red rose and have a "women's" night out at the fanciest restaurant in town! Have a blessingway, welcoming her into womanhood or have a period party, inviting wise women she grew up around, to tell uplifting stories about her growth and maturity. They can also give their wisdom about life and womanhood, writing it down in a journal for her to treasure in the future.
You can plan to have one on one time at home. Prepare her favorite meal, light some candles, give her one of our first period kits and have a good heart to heart (with a big hug, of course). Turn it into a yearly ritual for the two of you!
Our kits come with several options. The Deluxe First Period Kit, the First Period Kit, or you can purchase items individually and build your own! Here is the list of products.
-What's Happening to My Body book for girls, A Growing-Up Guide for Preteens and Teens by Lynda Madaras and her daughter Area. This is a very comprehensive, best selling paperback book that is wonderfully down to earth, easy to read and real! One of the things we love about this book, is that it offers unbiased information about ALL the different menstrual products, including Gladrags, Sea sponges and Keepers! For more information about this book, check out our Books/CD's link.
-A Journal Book. There are 5 intricate design styles to choose from and each beautiful journal comes with a matching notecard and a bookmark! Our Journals are made by an award winning artist from Oregon. Prints are made on a watercolor paper, then are meticulously hand-painted with acrylic paints. Look for the ladybug in every image: she represents good luck, happiness and prosperity! The artist donates a portion of the proceeds from the notecards to organizations dedicated to the preservation of animals and their habitat.
-One Organic Cotton 3 pack of Gladrags. Your choice of Dyed or Un-dyed. When we first heard of washable pad, we thought, "EEWW gross!" Then we tried out them out and were quickly converted!!! Never again will we put a bleached plastic pad next to our most sensitive places. The softness of cotton is next to heavenly, and the benefits to the environment is truly earthly!
-One Organic Cotton Gladrags Nightime Pad. (NOT SHOWN ABOVE) Your choice of Dyed or Undyed. These are the perfect answer to a heavy flow at night! The coverage from front to back is amazing!

Should a girl watch birth?
I think it should be mandatory for every girl around the age of 13 to watch a natural child birth. I am sure that would cut down the amount of teenage pregnacys right there!
