My 91 Mustang 5.0 AOD tranny is acting a little strange, it shifts just fine, no sli pping or any problems when taking off or driving, the problem is when coming to a stop before it downshifts from overdrive, it shutters alot until it downshifts. It mainly does it from overdrive, it seems to be ok and not do it, at least not as bad, if it is downshifting from 3rd instead of overdrive.
Any suggestions???

How can you even tell when it's in 3rd instead of O/D? As I remember it, the AOD in the 1991 Mustang 5.0L uses a shifter reading 1, 2, and a D with a circle around it. Have you tried shifting to neutral and coasting down in speed? Anyway, from the description you gave, it seems to me your problem might be in the rear gears or the converter.

Most everybody can tell what gear there car is in, when you start off it goes 1st, 2nd, 3rd, overdrive! Yes the shifter only says 1 D OD does that mean it skips 2nd? NO! Does anyone that knows anything about the AOD have any answers? It is not the gears, the rear end was professionally built, I havee been told it could be the TV cable adjustment, Anyone know the best way to adjust them? Hopefully someone with a little knowledge wll answer this time.

There's a real AND important reason I asked how you knew. You don't have a clue, so just tear into it and get it fixed without help.

Since you know so little, I won't bother trying to get info anymore, which could help you. Afterall, unlike you, I've figured out my AOD for myself and rebuilt it too. Well enough it handled daily driving duties and ran 11's on the 1/4 infact. Learn to answer questions with answers instead of stupid and childish remarks acting like you know something. If you knew, you'd never have asked.

Btw, if it's the TV cable, you need to find a real transmission repairman before going any further. There's a reason for that too, but YOU aren't worthy.

Hows it going I just bought a 91 mustang gt 5.0 convertibel. In great shape. Only problem is that the overdrive does'nt work. it works great 1st threw 3rd but when you put it in overdrive it disingades and does nothing
