I've heard that the they use the term "banana bender" in New Zealand.

Not sure what the Kiwis use the 'Banana Bender' for, but in a Australia it's a reference to Queenslanders, like Marc (where is he lately?)
Queensland is where most of the tropical fruits are grown in Australia, so the joke is that the bananas are straight and it's the job of the Queenslanders to bend them suitably.
Geez we're a funny (haha) bunch of people.

Now see heres the problem with that. In the states:
Yank = Northerner more specifically from the New England area
Us southern folk and even the folks out west don't like being called "yanks" (this probibly stems from our civil war in the 1860's where the north and south fought)
So for alot of us "yanks" is a derogatory term
The banna thing is funny though!
