Believe what you will Mr P. but they DO work.
Even on a little V6, this 3rd gen Firebird had 3.4 out of a 4th gen Camaro swapped in. Heres the dynograph of the cutout.

Hey Evil, you have yours on the Borla exhaust right?

Hey GMR, I have no doubt they will work (under favorable conditions, like no 90-degree bends and no unground raw weld cuts, etc.). I'm just continuing to pull a few legs on the ole muffler thread, where there was a "consensus" that mufflers made a car go faster.

In all fairness to that thread, I understand you can tune a muffler for maximum performance. The Supertrap, for instance, is a perfect example. Run it wide open, add a few traps to produce a little back pressure and watch the torque curve go up a bit and the ultimate HP reading drop a bit, etc. Just depends on what works best for the driving conditions and what your your valve train can stand on a regular basis.

Actually, I think one of these would be a lot of fun. I just wouldn't wanna get stuck with one open, next to a cop.

With all that horsepower you can "lose" by cutting off a muffler, this should be of interest so some of ya who wanna spend money to go slower! As for making noise, this is the next best thing to a set of Grovers. Actually the guy did a dyno and claims he gets something like 10 hp with this cutout and a cough, cough, K&N air filter, ha ha.. so believe what you want. Looks real cool though, and would appear to be lots of fun too.

Let's examine this, shall we?

Looks like Mr. Cadillac Style made 8.64 more hp with the cutout closed and ONLY a free-flow air filter.

After opening the cutout, he comes up with a whopping 3.61 more hp.

Hmmm...I wonder what kind of power you could make quietly with an aftermarket catback...

I'd guess about 12 hp BEFORE you threw on a K&N.

A cutout on a Cadillac CTS-V??? Damn. I'd just gut the cats and toss some MIL elim's on it.

Evil, you guys need true duals on those F-bodies like Mr. P needs his happy pills.

How much did your times improve with your cutout and is it located on the y-pipe?

GMR said he cut .2 of his 1/4 mile times with his.

Only 3 or 4 hp??? dammit. I don't know how y'all do it.

Your thread resembled some CNN shit. I had to FOX it up.

Heres a thread discussing Y-pipe vs true duals:

Check this dynograph
blue = duals
red = y-pipe

Like a 4 HP difference there. Mostly I want to do it for the sound, and its different. LT1+LTs+Xpipe and duals
Gonna dump it before the axles, eliminate as much weight and complexity as I can.

wouldn't a single weigh less? Not that it would be much difference...
