STI vs. z06

watched this go down at the track last night. sti with catback exhaust beating up on a z06...that really is just sad to see guys... a car not even designed for straight line drag racing finishing in front of the definition of str8 line. the sti et'd 12.89 z06 12.96.

i've got flame retardant for anybody who wants to throw an excuse in here, but i just don't see one as this is not the first time i've seen 4cylinder turbo beat up on huge displacements.. is beating way too often anymore. any hope for the meatheads future? im thinking of selling my cobra meat for an evo...doesnt seem like a bad idea when you think of how much better that car performs..im growing old of pig steering.

You got the money any car could be faster.....An Old supped up VW Beetle could handle both of those cars with less displacement in the 1/4...light cars do have an advantage to a point...

i just dont wanna be seeing any more of this crap though. i mean 405hp in a z06 to 300 in an sti.. i think the sti weighs someting like 3200 lbs w/ its all wheel drive. it just angers me!

I don't know if I'd consider losing by 7/100ths of a second as being "Beat Up". But unless they are racing at high altitude, the Z06 should be able to pull better #'s than that, stock, with a good driver.

Exactly. Z06 is a low 12 second car easily with a decent driver.

If you wanna see which one truly has the most potention (taking the driver out of the equation) pay more attention to the trap speed instead of the ET. My guess is the Z06 trapped atleast 115 mph and the AWD STI was probably 105-107.

To me this sounds more like an STI owner coming to a musclecar forum to boost the image of his own car by bragging about seeing some high 12 second sti beat a Z06 with a shitty driver.

The part about owning an 03 Cobra and wanting to trade it away for an evo for straight line performance just gave it away. I'm sorry, but I don't buy it.

Driver is one the most important parts of racing. Where is this track at? Id like to know what kind of DA it gets.
9 times out of ten, when Im at a track, muscle cars beat up on the imports.
Once in a while, youll see a fast one, but not nearly as much as the muscle cars.

Put slicks on the Z06 and watch what happens. Also, the Z06 is in no way the definition of a straight line car... they'll handle/hang with all but the priciest exotics in that department.

When you get down to it, a Z06 is definitely not made for straight line racing either. The suspension is designed for handling, not maximum off the line traction. The C5 was designed for road racing, not drag racing.

There have been bone stock Z06's that hit high 11's. How do you know the STI only had a catback? I'm willing to bet he had more mods to run a 12.8x. Anyway, a kill is a kill. No point in having a fast car if you can't drive it...

Pig steering? Anybody interested in drag racing a Terminator is gonna drop the sway bar first thing...but you wouldn't know anything about that. You don't own a Terminator, do ya? You damn sure don't know what pig steering feels like.

Tell your Mom to co-sign for an evo or what the fuck ever and go get your ass packed by the first Terminator you come across, Puddin.
