Har har Jay, many people don't have a clue about what the Opry is. It's a venue unlike any other in the country, and it attracts big names even though it's a little place. It's hallowed ground in the music industry. If I were you(first of all I'd consider myself a worthless piece of shit, with no future, no sense of humor, and no life, ha ha, just joking), but in all seriousness, I'd take your pretty wife to dinner and go to that upcoming Knopfler concert in Jacksonville. As a matter of fact, I'm checking his schedule to see if I can book another one in a nearby city, yes, it was that good..

Now for a concert update.

In a few words, "it was totally awesome". This guy is so cool, no sequins, no headband, no flash at all, no antics. He just walked on stage, waved to everyone in the auditorium, was wearing some drab black clothing, and then he just KICKED IT OUT! He just stood there and made it look so easy, sheesh, but it rocked Nashville, and Nashville is a very sophisticated music town. Seems that Mark and Chet did an album a while back. Many people, including Stevie Ray, and Paul McCartney, have come to Nashville to "kiss the ring" so to speak, and play with Chet. They teach each other a few tricks.

In any case, here Knopfler struts on stage, in his very polite understated way, and he pulls out this incredible large custom guitar. He holds it in the air. He says, "this is a very special guitar, it doesn't belong to me, it just came out of the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum, they wanted me to play it tonight for you". "It belongs to you, nobody can ever come and take it away". "It belonged to my friend, Chet". The crowd stands and screams.

He picks up the guitar, seems to take a minute to get accustomed to it, because it's pretty unique in size and configuration, and then he BLAZES !!

Knopfler is being accompanied by SIX OTHER PEOPLE on stage, including some original musicians from Dire Straits. They are as tight as ANY band you will ever hear. It was fun sitting there watching their reaction to Nashville. People in Nashville have a way of making class acts like this feel at home. I could tell from the smiles, winks, and clenched fist gestures back and forth, they were really enjoying playing this (benefit) concert.

When they were done, finally, the crowd stood, screamed, clapped in unison, stomped their feet and DEMANDED an encore. Then after the first encore, they demanded another one. The band was looking at each other like "what the heck is going on, these people are rabid".

He played for two and a half hours straight, no warmup band.

Check the links guys, he's on tour now. If you can possibly schedule it, GO TO A CONCERT. Mark Knopfler is as good as it gets with a guitar, it's original music, and his band is awesome. He is NOT some washed up artist just playing songs from the past, he has a lot of new material. Of course, he played some of his mega hits from the past, including Sultans of Swing, and Walk of Life, but with a LOT of ad-libbing.

This gets the Mr. P "FIVE STAR RATING". You can go to a concert that is louder, you can see pyrotechniques, you can see antics on stage, but you can see no better guitarist, period. The guys who were on stage playing with him, were also of a class by themselves.

Here is a photo of Mark, taken by Guy Fletcher, a member of the band, during the last cutting of their latest work.

Dog eat dog, rat eat rat

Check out this particular song, it's a new one. You'll note Knopfler seems almost asleep while he's singing and playing, but that's his style. This is a ballad. However, when he stands there and says, "and now I'd like to play a song that's dear to my heart..................LETS ROCK", it ain't no ballad, ha ha.
