I just bought this car and I love it, however today whenever I accelerated hard I got constant sputtering, its not smooth threw the RPMs. It like dies then picks up again. I figured maybe I was too low on gas which I was quite low, however when I took the cap off like a vapor sprayed out of the gas tank? And after I filled up the problem was still not fixed, can anyone figure out what this is? It doesn't do it if I drive it lightly, its weird. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a classic case of the Optispark going south on ya. But before that, you might want to check the cheaper parts firsts.
Fuel filter
Plugs and wires
Coil and ignition module
Is it setting an trouble codes?
Maybe even a vacuum leak
might want to chech those things first.

Check your fuel pressure too.

Thanks guys, I'm taking it to a garage tomorrow to have it looked at. I'll point out that optispark as I've heard it's a problem for the 93 and 94 LT1's.

ALso have them check the EGR valve for leaks, and the MAP sensor, its very critical for correct operation on a 93 since they are speed density.

I drove it today and absolutely no stuttering, I didn't change anything either. But I must say, the car can run and I'm so glad I bought one.

Another thing, is it okay to run the LT-1 on 89? The owner before me said he tried 93 a few times, but mainly just 89.

I'd stick with 93 and avoid the cheap junk in a LT1 since they will run best with 91-93.

I also have a 93 trans am, at one time the enigine would just cut out off the line and at the start and 3/4 mark of each gear. it turned out to the the ignition module.
