Makes me think twice about a spirited drive in the mountains. Especially with my crappy brakes...

But then I'm not a monkey.

This was staged to film and the idiot was looking at the video camera before he realized that he had screwed the pooch. This is a big reason why almost 40% of all Vipers have been totaled... driver error.

It's probably 80% of the reason all other cars are totaled too, "driver error" on one side or the other.

The guy sure took an odd line, locked em up waaaaaaaaaaaay too early, and never even tried to swing the tail out and attempt the turn, yikes, pretty poor. You know, a lot of hot car buyers have the cash to put themselves into a nice ride, but put them behind the wheel out on a winding road or anywhere short of a straight-away and ask em to think, respond, judge speed and distance, and they're like this guy (totally lame). Lots of cash + no skill = big insurance claim and hopefully no personal injury.

If it had been a 911 series Porsche with a rear engine bias, I could see this happening with an unskilled driver. With a 944, 914, 928 or any other car with perfect 50/50 weight bias, you could attempt to squal it around the turn, but the best tact (short of going over a cliff like that) would have been to power the nose into the turn, and use power to keep it that way. It's much easier said than done in a car with 50/50 weight distribution, because at the limits they'll break away.

It happens fast too. I've been lucky in my "off road jaunts". Not too much damage. Well, I did bend a car in half one time, but not recently.

Best thing in the mountain twisties, use good rubber, keep that speed down, unless you're running a time trial on Pikes Peak, lol. In that case, good luck trying to catch one of those big diesel race trucks!
