Inconsistent times

Eh, ran really off the wall... only took 4 passes the whole time, got fed up with my inconsistent numbers

First Run:
R/T: .62
60': 2.247
1/4: 14.957
MPH: 89.55

R/T: 0.84
60': 2.153
ET: 14.271
MPH: 96.92

*best run*
R/T: .52
60': 2.124
1/4: 13.932
MPH: 99.3

*last run to piss me off*
R/T: .84
60': 2.203
1/4: 14.455
MPH: 98.3

What can i do to get more consistent? Is it just more passes and more practice? My 60' time, although not the best, is relatively consistent... but my 1/4 consistency sucks. Is this normal? I was running on 315/35/17 Sumitomo HTR-Z's too... they arent really sticky tires at all, more just for street driving, i spun and got a little sideways on a couple of passes around 2nd gear...

Any recommendations guys? I'd really like to hopefully get to the track one more time this year before the snow hits and would like to at least run some numbers that are similar...

Your 60' arent too bad for street tires, thats about average. Sticky tires are a must! Thats a huge et killer. What RPMS were you shifting at? You gotta keep that consistent too.

Yea, they are pretty decent tires for the money... i was trying to borrow one of my buddies MT's but he was being stingy I wasnt really consistent on my RPM/shift ... i usually listen to the car and shift when i feel its ready around 4500-5000 i believe...

You need to watch your tach, just give it a quick glance when you can hear the motor start to reach the redline. I usualy shift around 5800, just nicking on the redline. If you wanna keep your eyes on the track, get a shift light and hide it somwhere in the interior, so you can see the flash come on while still looking forward. Whats the Redline on those 4.6 SOHCs? Ive driven a couple in the past, I noticed that most of the power comes on at the topend.

Our redline is about 5800... i really dont let it get over 5K, and yea there is alot more power up there... i have a shiftlight, but its not wired correctly haha... i should fix that prolly

shift just before the rev limiter...if at all possible, bump the limiter to 7500...sounds crazy, but I know of a PI 4.6 up here in the high plains that gained bigtime shifting at 7200 with an S-trim

get some Nitto DR's at least, tell your buddy to quit being a bitch and bust out the tires. ET Streets require little to no burnout to hook on a near-stock car, so don't worry about tearing his tires up.

That's it...get out of the hole, find a shift point that makes good power and stick with it. Don't miss any shifts. Easy Money.

oh yeah, and kick anybody in the nuts that says your car would run better with a tank full of race gas in it. Stick with 91-93 Premium and nothing more or I guarantee you'll be wasting money and going slower.

Practice speed shifting once you get used to racing it at the track...I speed shifted the hell out of my old '96 Cobra and loved it.

Thanks for the tips Jamey... yea it pissed me off he was being stingy with his tires, if someone asked for my tires i'd have no problems especially just for like 1 pass like i was asking for heh...

I was on about 1/2 tank of 91... i wish there was less, but the drive there i didnt suck up enough lol

About bumping up the rev limiter, is it that safe on an N/A 2V to go that far into the redline? i'm not too sure if i wanna do that with a stock block like i have man... 5800 is the start of redline, and 7500 seems like i'll go boom pretty fast

Still not too good with the powershifting... but then again i only tried it once lol

Shift right at your redline. I had the rev limiter bumped up on SS and it shifted around 6,200 I think it was.

is it safe on the engine to change the rev limiter?

and how do you go about doing that?

You'll have to get a chip or programmer of some kind, You can get a killer deal on a DiabloSport Predator through www.socalmotorsports.com for around $310 shipped.

The dude with the 4.6 SOHC here blew the bottom end out, but he also was running an S-trim maxed waaay out too.

If you can get it to 6800, hellyeah...call that good.

well, i am probably getting an SCT tune when i can get the cash for it, then ill get my 4:10s put in as well... so i bet i can do all this at once and really get a nice power gain heh...

man, i was so tempted... this local performance shop was doing a month long special... brand new Vortech or Paxton Novi blower installed/tuned for 4100.00 total... thats not bad considering a blower costs near that heh too bad i am broke haha

SCT's a good company, that'll work nicely. 4.10's!!! Niiiiice

Get that traction action in the works and hit it hard!

i'd be willing to bet with an SCT tune, 4:10s, and some Drag radials I could be solid in the mid to high 13s as is and i havent even gotten close to finishing up with boltons yet to get as much N/A power squeezed out heh

On LS1's if you go too high, like around 6,700 or so, you can have problems with the stock pushrods. Most guys change them out, and some shift around 7k with cams and some close to that even with the stock cams. Like VettKlr said, you'll need a tuner to adjust your rev limiter.

Posted by: VETTKLR

pushrods??? he don't need no steeenking pushrods!!!

Sounds like you're on the righ track, Mike

I didn't say he did, did I? :flip: I was simply stating that on LS1's, it can be a problem. You guys and your modular motors!
