I'll get into the details if you'd like, but yeah, it's a JW thing.
I used to celebrate up until I was about 14 or so (when I was a protestant). I don't miss it whatsoever...same goes for holidays. I get & receive gifts from friends & family all year round for no reason at all. I think it's actually better this way, than to expect gifts or parties on certain days every year.
