This Camaro doesn't have much of the original suspension. But it still reminds me of that thead a couple years ago where the riceboys were arguing that classic American muscle cars would never be competative at drift events.

. Although the majority of machines competing in the U.S.-based Formula Drift series are still imports, it was a Pontiac GTO, a Dodge Viper and a Ford Mustang that finished one, two, three in this year's championship.

I have nothing against imports, it's just that domestic muscle rules the universe of autos. Ok maybe Im a little egotistical, I just see imports befor the 80's as a lower grade, then pre-80's domestic's.

Unless its italian.

If you think about it, American performance cars are perfect for drifting... relatively high torque (and relatively flat torque curves, and therefore pretty linear throttle response), and many of them (over the years) have been designed with more of a nod towards straight line acceleration rather than sticking through the twisties.

The best part is that Rhys Millen is kicking the shit of all the ricers with his 04 GTO. He put about 60K into the car (including cost) and is making the 150 - 250K Skylines and what not look like rookies. Not bad huh?

uhhhh what? iirc hes backed by GM and the cars been practically reingineered from the ground up susp wise.

The stock GTO susp is a pos from the factory. I have no clue what it would be good for. It would have to be totally redesigned to work.

It may be a ground up suspension, a fiberglass front end, and a gutted interior, but there are few mods done to the engine and drivetrain. It's only about an additional 30K that's been invested. I think I seen it in Car and Driver or something like that.

iirc it was featured in hot rod..and the motors built up pretty stout. its way way more than 30. regardless its still impressive.
but its No more budget racer than his competition is, sorry to burst that bubble.

On the other hand, the El Camino that won a couple meets was definitely a low-buck effort.
