Hey guys, I'm new here and I have some questions...
I have a 1989 Pontiac Trans-Am with a 305 V8, and it has some problems. When you first fire up the car, it idles REALLY high, and stays like that. When I put the car in drive and take my foot off the brake, the car will do a peel-out(I dont even touch the gas). After the peel-out the car will accelerate to about 35 mph. Is this a choke problem or do I need to check out the idle itself?
Also, when the car first starts up, the oil pressure gauge tells me that the pressure is through the roof, but after the car runs for a while the pressure will go back down to normal. The oil level is correct, so is there an issue with the oil-pressure gauge, or do I have a much larger problem?

To answer your first question;
If it's fuel-injected, you'll have to get your car scanned and look for trouble codes.
The second question sounds like either a pressure sending unit or a gauge. I'd replace the sending unit first. In either case I wouldn't worry too much about it because it's not giving TOO LOW an oil pressure reading which is what you DON'T want. Also, oil is thicker when it's cold and will give a higher reading til it warms up.
Hope this helps.

Hmm, my brother once turned his ignition to "accesory" on and off 4 times, and on the 4th time he kept it on "ignition" and the "check engine" light flashed, and he counted the series, and found his problem. Does that also work with older model GM vechiles? Because he did that on his 97 Intrepid.

Nope, that method only works with chryslers. To bring up a GM code you need jump 2 pins in the ADLD connector underneath the dash near the steering wheel.

It could be your throttle position sensor and as far as the oil maybe it just needs time to warm up and breakdown just a little my old dodge does that when i start it up it reads 75 psi when it warms up it drops down to 50 might be something to think about

The high idle problem could very well be a vacuum leak, which will not through a trouble code
The oil preasure issue your have is most likely due to cold oil and a high idle, probably nothing to worry about
