If MikeT's post is any indication, you were probably safer having those guns pointed at you than at someone else.

Matt, not too sure about that, because I am 110% sure some of those guys had blood on their hands and knew how to use those guns (on people). Some of them may have done the ole pistol to the head routine.

There were three groups:

First and most fearsom were the "special police" who dressed in civilian clothing, wearing golf shirts, all packing pistols in their belts.

Second group, fearsom due to lack of training, were the low eschelon guards all equipped with WW-II carbines. They didn't mind pointing them at you, I guess it was their way of fighting off boredom.

Third group, were the young dress recruits, who were probably their idea of "special forces", all dressed in parade dress with white gloves and berets, but who would point their submachine guns at you with their fingers on the trigger. Didn't anyone tell these people about gun safety?

I had a late afternoon encounter with the first group that I'd kind of like to forget about. Thankfully they never checked my film. Not one of my favorite vacation spots.
