Hello another newbee here. I live in slidell La. Just got an 1981 trans am it has the 301 for now. Would like to put a 454 if possible? Any one can help me let me know if it will fit with no problems or not. Thank you.

Welcome aboard. 
It would probably make the swap easier if you put in a pontiac 400. That way you could keep the wiring, engine mounts and transmission. 400's have quite an aftermarket following too, and if you're REAL lucky, you could find a 455 pontiac.

Thanks for the opinions.I dont know what ill put in it yet, but i do want 500+ hp in it. Im going to do a lot off reseach.Heard bad thing about 455 and there heavy and i havent found an aluminum block one ether.

the only aluminum bbc blocks im sure are very expencive aftermarket ones. there isnt much wrong with a poncho 455
