Raced a GT tonight!

Ya... so i got off work late about 8 30 and stopped to say hi to my girlfriend at her work(movie theater). I parked in front of box and walked up to the window to say hi but before i made it there this late 90's something 4.6L GT started up in the lot. It obviously had exhaust and it was a fake saleen. So i looked at my girl.. pointed at the car and said i gotta go. love ya.
She said "your an ass!" as i ran to my car... ha...

So I follow the guy out of the theater and we turn left onto a double lane road... he is a few cars ahead of me.... we come to a double left turn lane im in the far left... he is in the lane next to me. Light turns green we both kinda half drift the corner... and amazingly we both catch traction at about the same time. We are dead even... my car hits 2nd or 3rd(im not really sure how fast we were goin/ its an auto) and i start crawling away. pulled on him till his front bumber was even with my back and then hit the brakes... he passed me and got on the long loop onramp to the freeway... i followed and he tried to lose me... (well he was losing me) cuz my car has h rated tires and im a little catious with the handling.

anyway... it straightened out... and he took off... as did i... and i slowly but surely pulled back up to him... and got about half a car on him and then he let off... and slowed down to 60 and wouldnt play anymore from there.

I was really surprised... i thought i was gonna lose... i guess those 4.6's arent all that fast.. plus with that fake saleen shit adding weight... It was fun

And this was in my 1991 Mustang.... sorry... Its a LX 5.0 Hatchback... with an AOD and im gussing it has 3.08's

If you beat him with an AOD... then his car is a DOG! Most stock AOD 5.0's are low 10 sec 1/8th mile cars! My buddys old 5.0 GT AOD ran 10.70@68 stock!

with some mods and gears he did get ino the 9.40@75 range.

There was something wrong with that dudes car if yours is a stock 5.0/AOD. Unless he was a 96-98 with an auto also

Women get emotional and many would have thought you cared more about the street race than they in that predicament, like she isn't as important to you.....Now, if you made plans with her to go to a local track to race..different ball game.......Remember she called you "an ass!"....Watch those P's & Q's....

My first AOD 5.0 had 2.76 gears i believe... not 2.75's and this one is definantly geared differently... i might be mistaken but from memory... i thought they put 2.76 or 3.08 from the factory... and you could also special order 3.27's

This was a 1996 or a 1997 the ones with the 4.6L Gt badge....

Stock gears in my 91 LX were 3.08's and the car ran easily in the 9.80's on the 1/8 mile.

Still a sled, but enough to hang with a stock automatic 94-98GT.

Get that slushbox some HELP!! A simple B&M TransPak will do wonders for that AOD. Then add a set of 3.73's and you'll have a mid 14 second(maybe quicker) car w/o question. And btw, whatever you do, avoid high speed runs with that transmission. 1/4 mile races are fine, but it won't like 125+ very much for any length of time. The only chance to save it in that case is a large trans cooler.
