99 ta rear diff problems

my freinds 99 ta rear end went to making some real bad sounds.we found that the pinion bearings are bad,but we cant get the axles out.it has the c clips but we cant get the axle in far enugh to get them to slide out.its a ls1 with trac control.any ideas?they will be greatly apreciated,hes missing his car already.a schematic or somthing showing how it comes apart would be helpfull.thanks

You do know the wheels must be off first, right?
I'm not trying to make you look or feel stupid, but I've seen this before. A friend asked me to come over and help him because he had the same problem. I LAMO for a few minutes then removed the wheels and had it apart in about two minutes.
Again, I'm not trying to make you look bad. I'm just trying to help.

yes i have removed the back wheels,and the back braks,and speed sencer.i think its a posi,but dont really know,it looks a little diffrent from other rear ends.

If you turn the axle over, you will see a small retaining bolt, remove it(carefully, they are notrorious for breaking) then slide out the pinion shaft. Now you can push the axles in far enough to remove the c clips
It may be a torsen posi, which uses worm gears instead of clutches.

You have to pull the ABS sensor. Trust me on this. I have pulled one to many 10 bolts out of F-bodies, there is one on each side I think it is a 10 mm bolt at any rate, each one only has one bolt pop out the sensor, which is located on the backing plate and push the axle the rest of the way in. the C-clips will come right out!
