I'm new to the site and i had a question on a hemi. would it be a good deal if i could pick up a 331 hemi w/o the crank for 200 and if so what could i do to put some power into those motors. Thanks

Depends on what you want to do with it. I'd only use a 331 for a restoration or a street rod, where going the fastest is not the goal. You can find a 360 smallblock complete and running for that price, and get more power out of it for your money. The biggest advantage of a 331 would be its rarity, but that's also its weakness.

i would want it to go in my 73 dart swinger and would be used for stomping some of the imports into the ground on grudge night at the strip right now the car has the 318 in it and its quick but far from what i want my dad has the 383 magnum in his Belvedere II so i would want something to keep up with his as well

I recommend you add some mods to the 318. To swap a 331 Hemi in there, you'll need custom motor mounts and it may not bolt up to your existing tranny. Probably needs custom headers too. And speed parts for the 318 will be a lot cheaper. The Dart's a bit lighter than a B-body, so unless that 383 has substantial mods, you have a reasonable chance of building your Dart to go just as fast. If it's not fast enough for you, I would recommend a big block swap.

Imports is probably not the best choice of words imports to me are riced out hondas with stickers everywhere and the spolier big enough to seat 4 people comforably, not to mention the exhaust that no one could plug with a watermellon. I have respect for the people that do real work on their hondas and others just not the ones that put stickers all over their car.

A built 360 in a Dart will be a screamer, and bulletproof as well. To build up an old 331 would cost$$$. If you could find a 5.7 hemi out of a wreck, that would be a sweet install and very fast in that light vehicle. A motor that will push a Ram thru the quarter in 12 sec with nitrous boost would be scary fast.

I would stay away from the OLD HEMI. Hard to find parts and would be a nightmare to install in a A-Body without alot of knowledge. Go with the 318 thats in it or swap it out for a 360. You can find them all over the place still.
