I bought a 82 mustang. The person before I owned it put a 1970 302 with a big cam and 50 oz flex wheel and damper. So it vibrated allot. He dragged raced allot at the track. The motor died so I put the SROD 4 tranny and the 7.5 rearend in my 86 5.0 mustang because it needed those items. Sold the 82 mustang to my dad. With the correct flex wheel it vibrates at 60 mph and gets worse faster you go. I had to replace the drive line with a good one and now that one is going bad. Im hoping the rearened is bad not the tranny. I cant find a tranny anywhere but the rear ends are easy to find.

have you checked the U-Joints, and is the drive shaft out of ballance? Ive had plenty of trannys take a dump on me, they usualy dont cause a vibration.

I drove the car that the drive shaft came out of and it was fine. So I know that it was ok then installed it in my car. I test drove my car with the new drive shaft and it only had alittle vibration. After driving 60 miles going to work and back home it started to vibrate violenty again. Like last time. I put the car on jacks and set the cruise at 60 mph and heard allot of noise coming from the rearend. Sounded like chains rattling.

If it's the rear end, get an 8.8 to replace the 7.5 you put in. Infact, fix the 8.8 you took out and put it back where it started... even if it's not the rearend. If your car had an AOD originally, the SROD might need a D/S specialist advice, as it may be too long or short for your car. Why can't you find a transmission? There are hundreds of thousands out there. Finally, make sure it's not a bad harmonic balancer. If you replaced a 50oz with a 28, that could cause a problem in the clutch mating, but if you replaced the clutch too, that shouldn't be an issue. Good luck.

I replaced the rearend and the problem is now gone.
