Which one would you take?

Yep, here it is, another one! Gotta figure out a good thing to call this.
The last one went OK but ya know, just stating "The 'Vette is the BEST CAR EVAR!!!" is OK and all but tell everyone WHY you think it's the "BEST EVAR!!!" and the discussion would be a bit more fun.
So here's the next one and the are a tad obscure to the average schmuck. Hopefully it will foster some deeper discussion. I'll even post links this time to some info about the cars so you can look and see for yourself.
First off is the Porsche 914:
Some info

A Wikipedia link about the 914:

The 914 is a spunky little hot rod of a car, mid-engined with the traits of a go-kart. Not screaming fast but a fun ride nonetheless.
It's sparring partner, the Ferrari 308 GTB
A Wikipedia article about the 308:

Some buyer's info about the 308

Yes, that's right, the 308 GTB, Magnum P.I.'s car! The working man's Ferrari. Sure, it's not the most spectacular Ferrari out there but, just like teh 914, it offered a hell of alot of performance for the price and that price was also very affordable.
So there you have it, take your pick and tell us why you picked it. Don't be afraid to question other people's picks too. That's part of the fun!

914. I love the aircooled VW's. Plus that Type 4 motor in the 914 can be built to put out 2-3 times it's original output fairly easily. In that rollerskate it'd be fun backroads car.

OOP! Sorry dude, forgot to mention that the previous rules apply also:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
These polls have two options. Each one is a car and they are pitted against each other. The only thing you can't consider is financial things such as how much it is worth or how much it cost new. In other words, money is no object so it should not enter the discussion at any time. Otherwise, pick teh damn things apart, compare them every which way from Sunday and just have fun! BTW, "modifications" are a non-factor also. The cars are to be compared and contrasted as they were when the rolled off the showroom floor.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not that I don't agree with you about the air cooled VW's having a tremendous amount of potential, it's just that comparing modifcations of one car vs a completely different car won't really do anything except start a pissing contest. If modifications are a reason you would want the car then that is OK but honestly, any engine can be modified to produce 2-3 times it's original output. It just matters how much money you have.
If you want to use modifications as a reason for grabbing a ride then that is ok. Don't discuss specific modifications or talk about how cheap it might be unless you can show, without a shadow of a doubt, proof that your monetary claims exist.
For instance, it is well known that you can take a Fox chassied Mustang and have it making 350 horses and running high 11's for less than say 5 grand. But, if you want to use something that specific in a poll, you need to show proof that you can get the car, find the parts that will make the power you want and then tally the cost of it all with evidence, not just heresay. So if there was a comparo between an 86 Mustang GT and an 86 Camaro Z28/IROC then saying you would want to get the Mustang because it has greater aftermarket support for modifications would be fine. It won't necessarily detract from the discussion. The second we start with the specifics and specified power levels and such, we start a pissing match which will totall derail the discussions.
These are meant to foster interaction between forum participants and hopefully get people to dig up some info and learn something they didn't know about the cars in question. I'm not trying to be a nazi, just trying to expand people's horizons.

Tom Sellick is cool but...
914 with an LS1!

If you made that a 914-6, this might have been closer. But as it is, and since cost of maintenance is not an issue, I'd take the Ferarri. I never really liked the looks of the 914, while the 308's styling is a knockout. The Ferarri wins on power, too. Not sure about driving feel, but it can't be that much worse than a 914.
Plus, I can wear my Hawaiian shirt driving it.

Looks to me is just as important as power is to some....If I'm going to choose, I first go on looks...So this being the case...The Ferrari Gets my vote....I'm not picking a car that looks like hell frozen over, but can do the 1/4 mile in 11 secs...I'll Save those comments for the Sleeper Topic....

Hey John,
I owned a 1972, 914-6 for awhile. Very nice little car. Handled very well, alot of power and had good reliablity. Downside was, very small interior, alot of noise and with the top up was hard to get into.
I voted for the 914 anyway................ don't think I could see myself in a CHEAP Ferrari.

I like the Ferrari. The 914 is great and handles awesome! I just can't get passed how it looks, I have never been a fan of it. I just think the Ferrari is sexier, I am usually more of function guy than "Pretty" guy when it comes to cars.
