...What do you hafta do to upload your own avatar? I'm pretty sure I see a few folks with avatars not in the list...but I can't figure out how to upload one for myself!
Also, what's the dollar amount on the left all about? What does that mean? And how do you get it?

Users need to earn their custom avatar...post count, 'play money', or whatever...can't remember.
'money' can be earned in the arcade (challenging another use), or if someone starts a vBookie, you can bet on whatever is in there...sports, politics, etc. Neither of these features have had much action lately, though.
