Upgrading my 98 WS6 TA.....

Hey i just registered here and i wanted to ask some different people what kind of upgrades i should get for my TA.

Anyway, ive got a 98 WS6 TA 5.7 V8. I just got out of the air force and now that i have some time on my hands (and money ) id like to devote my energy on upgrading the performance of my car. Im setting aside $5,000 for upgrades strictly performance based. I'll take care of the interior/exterior, bells and whistles later......

The only thing im sure on is the exhaust. Im picking up the Borla Cat Back Split Rear Exit package. I've heard it on 2 other TA's ( 98, 99) and its got a hellova sound to it. Ive looked everywhere on the net and the best price im seeing is just under $700. Ive got a good friend who co-owns a performance exhaust place and can get it to me for $600, which i think is a great deal. Borla, IMO, is one of the best and you are going to get what you pay for. Getting a good exhaust was high on my list.....

Anyway, id like to really get into upgrading under the hood and was wondering with 4 grand or so what you would do? I've looked at Edelbrock headers as well as peformance chips. What combinations would you look at?

Thanks for you help...

For that price? A centrifugal supercharger kit.

I'd start with a new rear axle assembly (prolly use 3.73s). Moser makes a nice one and there are other choices.
After that, Idunno ... There are many things one could do.
I'd prolly get a set of (preferably) ported 243 castings and (maybe Weiand) LS6 intake and slap on something like an ATI procharger (P-1SC-1). This blower is a bit of a pain to install, but it's a pretty dayam good blower.
Hmm ... A cam (in the range of 224/230 dur., 112-114 cl, lift around .55 {it doesn't NEED huge lift). This should be great with the blower.
Oh yeah, long tube headers. These are a bit of a pita to install too, but ya gotta have'm.
Of course, you'll need bigger injectors (42s should be fine) and a bigger fuel pump (Walbro 340 would be good).
This set-up should net around 500-530rwhp (with no more than 6psi) and those are nice numbers. That's just a guess.
I think I busted your budget so, like Matt said, start with the blower kit ... After you get the rear swapped.
Of course, there are some "givens" I didn't list (throttle body, air meter etc.) And I prolly forgot some stuff, but you get the idea.

By the way, if you buy the "supercharger system", it'll prolly come with some of that stuff (IE: F/P and inj), so check around.

If it's an auto you'll want a converter and ... well that's another story. Again, there are many options.

Good luck with it, SteelForce.

One of these days I'm gonna build my own LSx hotrod! Somebody send me about $20,000, please!

Auto or Manual, if you have a manual DO NOT GET A MOSER 12 BOLT!!!! I broke mine twice with just a launch from 3 grand with, Mac Mid lengths, Exhuast, LS6 intake and a Mcleod twin disk, of course I have a six speed.
Go with a Dana 60 or 9 inch you won't be sorry.
A good 9 inch is going to be about 2300 shipped. That is half the budget right their but a neccesity when if you have a manual.

Does Moser not build a Dana 60 for the F-bodies? If not, my bad! No wonder everyone says "they're cheaper"!
But wait ... I thought Moser built an 8.8 rear for the F-body.
Ah, anyway, I'm a fan of the Dana 60.

Ibin outta da game too long! My memory is just plain bad, these days!

No Moser builds a 9 inch and a 12 bolt. Strange builds a Dana 60 and a 12 bolt.
I was not happy with how Moser treated me at all it is a long story...
