My 1995 TransAm shifts doesn't shift correctly I am unable to read any code. I feel vibration under seat or in rear end at high speeds. When in drive it shifts at 2500 to 3800 rpm when pedal is floored. It won't downshift when attempting to pass. I also have strong gas smell

You are running rich and something has cause the computer to go into limp-home mode. It won't downshift as readily like this. What is causing limp-home? You might have a misfire which is what is causing the vibrations through rough running. Either that or you have a driveshaft out of balance. That would cause the shifting problem but probably be unrelated to the rich condition. Vibration under the car can also be caused by broken teeth on gearing or improper pinion angle. You might also have a tire out of balance.

Get under the car and start looking for things that seem out of the ordinary. Look for loose stuff too.
