HI;
CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME OUT A LITLLE?? MY NAME IS RAUL CINTRON FROM PUERTO RICO AND I WANT TO BUILT A 1971 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE. I KNOW WHAT COLOR I WANT IT AND HOW I WANT IT , BUT WHEN IT COMES ABOUT THE ENGINE, I DONT KNOW ANYTHING. I DONT KNOW WHAT TIPE OF ENGINE IS BETTER, HOW TO DISTINGUISH ONE FOR ANOTHER, THE DIFFERENT NAMES AND NUMBERS AND HOW MUCH IT COST EACH. I HEARD ABOUT THE 454, OR THE 540, OR SOMEONE IN BETTWEN, BUT I DONT REALLY KNOW ABOUT IT. SO PLEASE HELP ME OUT WHIT SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THIS MATTER, IT WILL BE A GREAT HELP.

Well Raul, it all depends on what you want to build and how much you want to spend.
The cost effectrive way to build a chevy engine is to build a small block 350 with a good cam(there's lots to choose from) with headers, dual exhaust and an aluminum intake manifold. This gets you approximatrley 300 horsepower. The more expensive (and powerful way)\ to get more power is to buy a 572 big block with a blower. That would be around 800-plus horsepower.
It's all up to you. What you need to ask yourself is;
"What do I want my car to do?"
