I need some GT3 advice.

I just got back into it a few days ago, so I've been going through the Biginner League. So far I've won the Sunday Cup and Clubman Cup, and the first race in the FF Challenge. And now we get to my dilemma.

Forever ago when I started out with the career mode, I bought a PT Cruiser. Here are my mods so far:
-Sports Suspension
-Semi-Racing Muffler & Air Cleaner
-Racing Chip
-Twin Plate Clutch
-Semi-Racing Flywheel
-Sports Tires
-Stage 1 Lightweight

IMHO it's been serving me pretty well, but there the last few races I've begun to think I might should be driving a different car. A PT Cruiser just seems wholly unsuited to racing. When I won the Sunday Cup series and got w/e car it was I got, I sold it to buy more stuff for the PT Cruiser. Then while I was practicing the Deep Forest Raceway for the Clubman Cup (got it down to 1:36.1xx!), the thought struck me that maybe I should just start all over with a Miata, seeing as how I'm really not that far into the game yet. Then, when I won the Clubman Cup...it gave me a miata! So, now here's my dilemma.

Should I sell my PT Cruiser for 4,495 and use that money on the Miata, or should I sell my Miata for 4,225 and use that money on the PT Cruiser?

Your advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Oh, one other thing. I'm assuming I would lose all my mods to the PT Cruiser if I sold it. However, I just noticed I can equip the Miata with the wheels I have on my PT Cruiser...and still have them on the PT Cruiser, too. When I buy a set of wheels, does that mean I have as many of that set as I have cars, or what?

Thanks!!

Posted by: Spenser01

I have always started w/ the miata, and think its the best to start out w/, then save up for the mustang, and buy that. so i say u sell the PT, and boost the miata. And for your question about the rims, if u buy one, u have an unlimited number of that rim.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Cool, thanks for the reply.

Whao, whao; this almost slipped by me. Save for the Mustang??. I think I'll save for the Camaro.

Posted by: Spenser01

well u could, and in real life i would too, but in the game the stang is better, and then i beat the hell out of enough mony to get the top Ruf, or the Viper, b/c those are the top cars in the game overall

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Holy cow!!! The Miata is a totally different ride!!

I went ahead and finished the FF Challenge before I sold the PT Cruiser. Won that event, sold whatever car I won and sold the PT Cruiser, and ended up with 14,483 to spend on the Miata.

Here's what I got:
-Raching Chip
-Racing Flywheel
-Stage 2 Turbo Kit

Wow, that's a short list to represent 14,299. But it is making 308hp now and 344 torque. Assuming they don't really mean 34.4. Are all the torque specs messed up in GT3? They sure seem like it.

Posted by: Geargrabber

I think it's in newton meters or something...been a while since I played GT3. Your head is going to explode when you get GT4 (no excuses....it's $10 in the PS classics bin!!!).

In GT4 the RX-7s from the used car lots will get you really far. Usually I just build the crap out of whatever for the wrong wheel drive races. It's kind of funny that Honda sucks in the game as bad as they do in real life!!

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Somone else just informed me about the units for the torque measurements...and I say....WHY?!?! I totally don't understand that. Makes zero sense. I'm lookin' at my stats...Yeah, man...I've got 308hp....and.....hmm...34.4 torque....

I didn't know GT4 was that cheap now...I'll pick it up here one day soon.

Posted by: merczephyr

$10 for GT4??? Where??? I paid $20 for it at wal-mart last friday...

As far as why Nm for torque in the game...That's what most of the other countries use for torque measurements. (Austrailia, Japan (where the game is from), etc. We unlucky yanks just had to adapt abit...)

Posted by: John

GT3 is a waste of time but a fun one! It's a waste because it's an unfinished game. It's supposed to have a drag racing series which is why there are the Nissan drag cars. But it didn't get included so you will never beat the game. I think the most you can get to completion is 96.4%.

Technically, the game is unbeatable.

I'd offer some help with GT3 but I haven't played it in so long I forgotten most about it. I almost have GT4 beat though. Gotta get through the F1 races and finish the driving missions and I'm there!

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Well, I picked up GT4 today when I went out to grab lunch. I went by WalMart first (since GT4 isn't even on Target's website)....and it was out of stock. But as I drove away all dejected feeling, I remembered a new video game store that just opened up. Paid $20 for it. That's also what Wallyworld was asking.

Now I have a whole new slew of questions, though I'm sure I'll also continue playing GT3 as, so far, I like it better.

What's with all the tuners? For instance, I bought a 1992 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR (I think), and I can buy stuff for it from Mitsubishi, HKS, Mine's, Amuse, Blitz, and Trial. The prices on the parts are the same, and the listed results are the same; why would I choose one over another? I'm completely lost, there.

Posted by: John

I honestly don't know why either. I was told that the tuner parts make more power when you are buying the cheaper sports stuff instead of the racing stuff. But I usually go all out and when you horde money like I do, you usually have enough to handle specing out a car completely. Otherwise, the tuner sections are much use to me and the only purpose they seem to serve is so that ricers can brag about thier virtual rides too. I stick with the manufacturers only. The highest performance levels will make more power for the same money and I only have one set of screens to click through.

Posted by: Grape Ape

I have GT3, but have never played it. There was a reason for buying it, but I became so engrossed in GT4 that I just skipped 3 altogether.

I have an F1 car, and have completed some of those races. That's the really difficult section, but the challenge is why one buys such a game imo. The street challenges are cool for the 1st 10-12 levels/sections. Then it gets not only more tricky, but a bit boring as well. I've completed several, but not all. And I haven't completed all the "singles races" either. Those where you race only one other car can be as annoying as the challenges. I haven't played at all in several months now, and took probably a yr long break before playing for a month or two. I think I'm at about 86% complete now, but I can't be sure.

Posted by: Grape Ape

Oh, and when you look to the aftermarket sections, I agree, there isn't much reason to choose those over the factory approach. It's just easier or quicker to get into those. As for which car to use, I just took whatever I won after buying the 1st car, and made it what I could with it. If it didn't suit me, I went back to another previously won car. I think I actually bought fewer than 10 cars and own over 100 on GT4.

Posted by: Spenser01

At some of the after market shops you can get more parts, like in some of the shops u can get higher stages of Turbo's, and some other things, so that anwsers that question, i hope.

I suspected some such as that, but haven't found any differences so far.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Aye yay yay. These license tests are impossible!! I took the first one (accelerating/braking 100m) and got a gold easy enough. I take the second one (accelerating/braking 200m), and I CAN'T get gold! I think my best time is 11.046, and gold has to be under 11.00. Argh. Is it possible?

Posted by: bl3wbyu

I need a question answered....pronto...for GT4!!

I bought a 1992 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR. Well, I just won the Sunday Cup and now have 13,771. Should I spend that on my Mitsu, or should I sell it and go buy that ~95 RX-7 R for 11,00 that I wanted earlier but couldn't afford?

Posted by: merczephyr

If you have the same memory card that has your GT3 info on it in when you start GT4, you can transfer your "a" and "b" licences, and up to 100,000cr. into your GT4 Game. Go into "Home," game status, and push the start button.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

I actually just did that...but what do you mean 'a' license? I never tried for that...the 'b' license was hard enough!!!

Posted by: merczephyr

I had the "a," "b," "ia," and "ib" on GT3. Just got my "ib" on GT4 last night. One test in there was a complete BITCH.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Can I ship you my memory card, and you take the tests for me?

Posted by: Geargrabber

Is the second stopping test on the B license the one with the dodge viper? You start that one out in second off the line and swerve just before you stop to either side. You can get way under the gold time by doing this

I just took all the IA tests so I could complete the driving missions section. Man are those fucking hard...I thought the slipstream stuff was neat though. The one lap magic stuff can be a real ball buster too. What a pain in the ass!!!

Posted by: Geargrabber

Oh and as far as cars go it's hard to beat the VW tuners R32. It's 34,000 worth of kick ass and you can use it to earn money to buy other cars. Save up for it, go to the special conditions races. Win the easy COte de Azur and sell the rally truck. You can make $275,000 in ten minutes with no effort whatsoever. It's only four laps and then you get the truck and there really isn't an excuseable way to lose this one

Well you should defently buy an RX-7, but u should buy it from a used car room, and make sure u get one of the better ones, that will be one of your best cars throughout the game.

What is a better one?

I couldn't wait long enough to get a response to that answer, and I was just dying to buy an RX-7, so I went ahead and did. Of course used.

1992 Mazda RX-7 Type RZ. $14,0xx with about 53,000 on the odometer. Here are the mods so far:
-Racing Exhaust & Air Filter
-Racing Flywheel
-1.5-Way Limited-Slip
-Stage 1 Weight Reduction

I'm kind of taking it slow on the RX-7. It's almost more of a show car to me. I'm planning to keep it throughout.

My main car is my 1992 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR; here are my mods for it so far:
-Racing Exhaust & Air Filter
-Racing Brakes
-Racing Chip
-Triple-Plate Clutch
-Racing Flywheel
-Stage 1 & 2 Weight Reduction

I haven't decided whether I'm going to keep the Mistubishi or not. I probably will, seeing as how it's 4WD and would probably do rally duty pretty well, even if I do build up another car to use as my main track car.

So far I've just been doing the Sunday Cup over and over again (done it four times, I think?) and then selling the prize car. Certainly is easy enough, especially with my recent mods. I tried the 4WD challenge with the Mitsu, and boy I got blown away on the very first track.

One thing I don't like about GT4 is you can no longer qualify for a race. I loved that! I would do at least 6 or 7 laps before racing on GT3, familiarizing myself with every turn, getting it just right, and of course making sure I was at least a few seconds faster than second place. Now you can't do that.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Oh, another thing I don't like. In GT3 you could go to arcade mode, choose free run, single race, or whatever, and then choose a car from your garage. You can't do that in GT4 anymore.

Posted by: John

When I started GT4, I bought a Lightning...go figure. I romped on that and the entire game with it until I started hitting races with full-bred race cars or races where trucks were not permitted. I forget what I got after that though.

Posted by: John

BTW, I have all the licenses, including the Super License.

The driving missions are my bane. I can't get them down well enough with the equipment given to beat the times on the 3 lap battles or the 1 lap magic. I'm within 2 seconds of beating each on on my best times and it's really difficult to figure out where to shave off time. You have to be abso-freaking-lutly perfect.

Posted by: Spenser01

i also have all the license, but i think, u should get a skyline, even an R32 will help u kill the races.

Posted by: merczephyr

I'm loving the 2005 Mustang GT. I hardly did any upgrades to it until I went into the American events and Professional Events. Still Haven't done much for suspension or weight reduction. It's won me about $500,000 in the last 5-6 days.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Y'all aren't helping none!

If y'all're doing so well with stock cars, then I must suck at this game to be struggling with mods!

Posted by: John

You can't guage yourself by me. I've been playing the GT games since they came out. I won all the licenses in GT4 in the first few times I played it. I can run circles around everyone else I know in this game and I have to try hard to lose on purpose. Also, none of my cars remain stock for long. You just have to choose a car that you can either win with or has a ton of potential. Some cars I have for specific purposes. I have a TVR Speed 12 and the only purpose of that one is to go really freaking fast! The GT games are not easy, they take time to get right so keep at it and you'll get better.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Ok, 'nother question. I just won the 4WD Challenge (phew!), and won the Toyota Motor Triathlon Race Car..when I select 'Sell', it doesn't tell me how many credits it's worth. Should I sell it? Will I get anything for it?

Posted by: Spenser01

well i say sell it its useless, and save up to deck that RX-7, thing should last u a while, if not, u can always get money buy doing easy races.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Dagnabit, a Mustang Cobra R just showed up used...and I want it! It's 24,000, and I only have about 800!

There's also an M Coupe for sale that I'd love.

And there's even a newer, with fewer miles RX-7 just like mine for less.

Do you know how much you get for selling the Toyota Motor Triathlon Race Car? If you don't get anything, I'll just keep it.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Awwww. I just tried selling it, and it gave me this message: "Car cannot be priced; ok to get rid of?"

I guess I'll just be keeping it.

Posted by: merczephyr

I've got several of those "can not be priced" cars and it peeves me off. I wish the Cobra R would show up for me. All my used car lots have is a few rice grinders and a Taurus.

Posted by: John

The Taurus is more potent than you think. The only Taurus in the game is an SHO. It's FWD and the car I used to beat the FWD challenge races. Don't knock the Taurus.

Also, I kept all of my special cars that "cannot be priced". Some of them are very potent race cars that you can't buy. The Toyota thing is a dog. It's slow but it looks cool. The Nike 2022 car is faster but you can't use it anywhere. Selling the cars doesn't get you anything, keeping doesn't get you anything on at least half of them.

Posted by: John

BTW, this is just a game. If you see a car you want to snag, don't worry, if it disappears, it will be back. If you just keep buying cars and throwing parts at them, you will blow alot of money and have a bunch of cars that don't do exactly what you want them to do. Stick with one car and work on getting the most out of that one. Get the parts you want or get all off them and tweak them. Once that is at it's limit, find another car to buy and continue on with that one.

Posted by: Geargrabber

I'm confused with the driving mission stuff too. I have killed some of the three lap battle times and won on the first try (the Honda one by like 30 car lengths). Then the other ones are impossible. I can't even touch the NY 3 lap battle with that old piece of crap (celica?) and to make it worse I hate driving it. The C5R Vette three lap battle is a challenge...but still fun due to the car. And the five second penalty sucks the big one...especially when one of the other cars hits you and you get the penalty. WTF?!?!?

Hey bl3wbyu- You are gonna hate life when you get to the professional races.

I was thinking about what might be your trouble. Not to sound dumb but you do realize the controller buttons are touch sensitive? If you are having problems while braking thats probably why. Post up some lap times on certain tracks with the cars you did them in so we can see where you're at.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Thanks for the voice of reason, there, John. I suppose you're right...it is just a game...but do you KNOW that the cars will reappear? I think I may just try and redo a few series to get some quick cash and buy that Cobra R before it disappears; that'd be a fun car to have. The M Coupe, Skylines, Mercedes, etc I can wait on.

I think I derive more enjoyment from having the cars than driving them...perhaps 'cause I stink at driving them.

geargrabber - Yeah, I do realize they're touch sensitive - thank goodness! It'd be a bear if they weren't. However, the steering stick being touch sensitive doesn't seem to help any. Maybe it's just me, but it seems to work better in the game to just keep poking at the steering stick to get it to turn, instead of gently moving it just a little for a turn. Is it just my poor technique? It just seems like there's no way to smoothly go through a turn by keeping a constant amount of pressure on the steering stick.

Good idea on posting lap times....I think I'll do that. I'm at school now, though, so I'll have to wait 'til I get back home...tonight...about 9:30.

Posted by: John

Dude, I'm on day 1885 in the game. The used car show rooms cycle every 655 days I think it is? I've cycled them 3 times so far I think. The cars all appear at different intervals but I've seen the same cars over and over. I found a Karmann Ghia in the used lot and didn't have the cash for it. I waited and it popped up again.

Yes, I KNOW they will reappear.

As for driving, I use a Dual Shock controller and use the twin analog sticks. It's like driving an old Tyco Radio Controlled Turbo Hopper or something with the dual sticks. It's easier to get the pressure sensitive stuff to work well too. You can vary braking, acceleration and turning force by varying how hard and how far you move the analog control sticks.

Posted by: John

BTW, for a secret, get yourself a car that will blow away the competition on the Endurance Races. Then start the races in A-spec mode, run a few laps and then pit. When you pit, select the B-spec mode. When the car runs out of the pits, get the monitor screen up, move the indicator with the numbers to 4 for Fast, hit the circle button I think it is for Overtake and just let it go. It will pit auctomatically and if you come back when the race is over, you will have likely won, gotten a chunk of money and a fancy car to go with it. Complete the 24 Hours of LeMans and you get an F1 car.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

I had wondered what in the world B-Spec is for...now I know.

Are there any real 'legitimate' uses for B-Spec? I can't figure out what kind of skill it'd hone.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Ok, so now I need some advice. I couldn't stand having the Cobra R for sale instead of in my garage, so I set out to buy it. I won the Sunday Cup three times and raised 32,000 Cr to buy it. So I go back to the used showroom and guess what...yeah, you guessed...it's already gone.

Don't worry, I found something else to waste my money on! A 1998 Lotus Elise Sport 190. Cost me about 24,000, IIRC. Boy, she's a blast. I think stock she could take my souped up Lancer.

Anyhoo, here's my dilemma. I won the MR Challenge and got the 1987 Lotus Esprit Turbo HC. Sure seems to be a potent car, and wasn't easy to beat in the MR Challenge. Should I keep it or sell it? I have about 20,000 Cr now from winning the MR Challenge and the Spyder/Coupe Challenge. I can get just over 10,000 for the Esprit.

I also got the Prowler from the Spyder/Coupe Challenge. I don't really see a reason to keep it (besides that it's cool!), but I will give it a spin before selling it. Driving it won't decrease its value, will it?

So, basically, should I keep the '98 Elise or the '87 Esprit Turbo? Or both?

Thanks!

Posted by: bl3wbyu

As for track times, I got some for y'all. Tell me if I'm doing ok or if I just plain stink (but you can feel free to put it nicer than that ).

1998 Lotus Elise Sport 190
-Close-ration Transmission
-Triple-plate Clutch
-Racing flywheel

Original Midfield Raceway: 1'24.593

Stock 1987 Lotus Esprit Turbo HC (same track): 1'28.030

I just love that track, for some reason. Perhaps it's the first one I ever took seriously.

So, anyhoo, how are those track times?

Posted by: merczephyr

I can't compare lap times as my wife is playing GT4 right now, but I did want to brag I got my ia license and have all but one test done for the Super license. But boy is that last test a doosey.

Posted by: John

Keep them all and just run more races and get more money.

It's a game dude. It's not worth agonizing over so much.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Well, I already sold both the Prowler and the Esprit. And bought some mods.

Here's what I've got in my stable so far:

1992 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR: 342HP: All from Amuse tuner's store:
-Racing Exhaust & Air Filter
-Racing Brakes
-Racing Chip
-Stage 1 Turbo
-Racing Intercooler
-Triple-Plate Clutch
-Racing Flywheel
-1.5-Way Limited Slip
-Stage 1 & 2 Weight Reduction

1992 Mazda RX-7 Type RZ (FD,J): 309HP: All from RE Amemiya tuner's store:
-Racing Exhaust & Air Filter
-Racing Brakes
-Racing Chip
-Original Suspension
-Racing Intercooler
-Triple-Plate Clutch
-Racing Flywheel
-1.5-Way Limited Slip
-Carbon Driveshaft
-Stage 1 & 2 Weight Reduction
-Medium Racing Tires

1998 Lotus Elise Sport 190: 190HP
-Close-Ratio Transmission
-Triple-Plate Clutch
-Racing Flywheel
-Stage 1 Weight Reduction

And I found out that in GT4 when you buy a set of tires/wheels...it's only for that car. I bought a pair of medium racing tires for my RX-7, thinking they'd be good for my Elise, and they're not.

Is that GT3 or 4? I'm guessing 3. If so, you've got me beat already, since I've never played mine. I'd have to "break it out" to see what my times are on GT4. Even so, I doubt I have those Lotus' in my pile'o cars anyway, but maybe. I don't care for Lotus too much in these games. Particularly since I have the GT car(in GT4- unmodifiable beyond adjustments, btw). It's QUICK!!! Top end needs help but it will get to it's top speed in a real fat hurry.

Quote:

Nahhhh... In GT4, you get a set for each car and if you sell the vehicle, you lost whatever you had in it. None of those parts are interchangeable from car to car and when you have two of the same car and go modify one, that's the only one which gets the mod.

Makes it more challenging and fun imo. I just hate how long it takes for all the things in the game. That's my PS2 though. I like it, but it's all too slow.

Btw, any of you guys use the steering wheel control? I have one(for PS1) and don't know if it will work on PS2 at all. But when I tried it way back, I couldn't keep the pedals in one place on my carpeted floor. Gave up in short order and stuck with standard controls. It should be a much nicer experience with a working steering system WITH a wheel!

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Those times are actually for GT4.

And I can't even imagine using a wheel for the game. I think that'd be awesome! Would love to at least be able to try it sometime.

Posted by: Grape Ape

I will have to see if the wheel can work with PS2. If it does, I'll just put a block of wood between it and the wall and go for it. Won't happen anytime soon though.

I will try to get this thing out and check my times on that track, even if I have to go buy the Lotus' you used. I'm rusty, so we'll see if I can beat your time.

Posted by: Grape Ape

I just took it out and, after about 15 minutes to get it all connected, went into arcade mode and raced the Lotus Espirit V8(I think that was it) for one lap. Stopped it to say, 1:27.866 on that 1st lap. We'll see if I can best it now that I've remembered HOW to shift gears! Be back in about two minutes.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Uh-oh! Now I'm going to have to start trying really hard on this track so I don't get totally embarrassed!

Posted by: Grape Ape

1:25.644 on lap two. 3 and 4 were a joke. Lap 5 1:24.410 and 1:23.858 on 6. Did a bit better, but by lap 10, stopped to switch cars. Lotus Esprit V8 to Lotus Elise 111S. Here we go.

Got a whopping 1:34.278 in the Elise lap 1. Lap 2 was better, at 1:30.218. This car is quite different than the other.

Not bad really. Can't modify the car except tires. I chose sports medium. Not a bad car, but seems better than in the other mode, which I'll try soon with a proper car.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

What 'modes' are we talking about here?

Posted by: Grape Ape

Managed a 129.105 by lap 7 and that's enough of the Lotus' for now. Can't choose the ones you've got in this mode, but I will choose a "better" car for a bit, and get back to you. Then I'll see if I have what you have and give those a shot if I do, or buy one and give that a go.

PS Arcade mode in Original tracks.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Ahh, gotcha.

I stayed up 'til 4 o'clock last night (err, this morning) playing GT4. I got tired of the simulation mode, so I went to arcade and drove some cars. I settled on the Shelby Cobra...gosh, I love this car as much in the game as I do in real life!

Going around the Original Midfield Raceway, with sport medium tires and all driving aids turned off, I managed a whopping 1'19.262. I don't really know how, and the closest I got to that again was like a 1'22.xxx.

But I sure was proud of breaking 1'20 without driving aids.

I can't get over how great it sounds, though! I had my headphones on and turned the volume WAAAAY up....holy moly...what a sweet idle.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Oh, I did 'tune' the Cobra, IIRC. Maxed out the power and lightened it as much as I could.

Posted by: Grape Ape

Samne track with the FOCUS RALLY CAR... 98 model I think. 1:22.853 on lap 1. Might get better, but prolly not by much with this car. We'll see...

Okay, I can do better. Lap 2 was a 1:21.605 and lap 3 was... a JOKE! Lap 4 netted a 1:20.430 though. One more and I'll switch... Well I went to lap 6. Lap 5 was the best. at 1:19.865 and I wanna do something else now.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Dang, you're about to be mopping me up off the tarmac!

Posted by: Grape Ape

Tried the Shelby Cobra... 1:26.251 on lap 1. We'll see if I can do better. I'd forgotten how SQUIRRELY this bad boy is w/o driving aids!! WOW!

Lap 2 wasn't much better, at 1:25.595. 1:24.310, but that took till lap 5. Lap 6 was a 1:23.634... Squirrelly bastard! 1:23.582 on 6. 1:22.721 on lap 7. ... Got a 1:21.407 on about lap 10. Reset though, so I'm not sure. Turn ON the two driving aids. No other changes made... Got a 1:19.114 in 2 laps. Took ABOUT 20 LAPS to get there, but I got a 1:18.862 best. I don't think the car needs more power or less weight, just more traction!

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Aww, come on. What's the fun of driving it with the driving nannie's keeping you in check?

Posted by: Grape Ape

MAX POWER and fully lightened w/ T/A off, ran a 1:23.778 on lap 1. Managed a 1:20.396 sometime after... Screwed up on the last turn... Finally got a 1:19.440 with the Cobra and I'm DONE with that beast! I did better with T/A and no power upgrade, but I thought I would.

Lotus Elise 111R on Midfield Raceway, modded to the hilt. Sloppy lap with a couple of "offs" got me 1:18.645 I'll see if I can do better with it later. I think I can. I think there's a 1:16.XXX in there somewhere for this car.

Lotus Esprit V8 GT on Midfield Raceway, modded to the hilt also. Fairly clean lap, one "off" got me 1:09.553 This car gets twitchy and you need to have teh driving aids on otherwise the ass end is all over the place with even a hair on the throttle.

Formula Gran Turismo (F1 car) on Midfield Raceway, car can't be modded. Clean lap, no "offs", 59.335 It's hard not to go fast with this car. You should with the 24 hours of LeMans as soon as possible to get this ride in your garage!

The only Rally car I have is the '03 Lancer Evolution car because it was the best one in the game. The others I have are the old Puegeot, Renault and Ford cars from the 80's. So my time with the Lancer on Midfield Raceway is 1:16.759 I'm not buying a Ford Fuckus rally car just to run the lap in it.

Gimmie another track now.

Posted by: John

One more, 427 Cobra on Midfield Raceway, 1:14.297

Barely any mods. No power adders except nitrous and sports computer tuning, just racing trans and parts, suspension, brakes, weight reduction and racing tires.

One thing though, the 427 sounds real nice in teh game.

Posted by: John

Just re-ran the Elise 111R and got a 1:15.538

Posted by: Grape Ape

Just took my GT car to Mid-Field... 54.9xx and got bored with that. For those who haven't got one of these, like John says, win the 24H LeMans and you'll be lovin' life in this game!!

I want to go race something else, but haven't played till tonight in so long I can't remember what tracks I like best.

BTW, when I ran the 24, even when switching to B-spec, it wouldn't finish. It would pit automatically, but when the tires were really worn. After that, it seemed to not exit the pit and keep racing. I wonder if something isn't wrong with my game. I played for into my 4th day before completing that one race. It sucked!

At day 1,503 now, I've completed 88.1% and earned 9,147 points in A-spec and only 3,453 in B-spec skill. A-spec mileage shows 12,777. B-spec shows 3,457 miles. I have all the licenses. It's the 1st thing I try to do, then I fa'getaboutit. I show 933 trophies and only a 77.9% win ratio, with 811 wins in 1,041 races. I own 174 cars and have owned 185. Total prize credits comes in at 20,361,400 so far. Of that, I only have 4,718,226 left.

What was that easy race for big bucks again???

The part that sucks is my lack of effort in the licensing. I have only 1 gold, and 14 silvers. I have 65 bronzes. My course skill is only 36!!

Posted by: Grape Ape

I think I'll try one of my own cars aside from the GT car and see if I can conquer Mid-Field. Nothing I have will compete with the GT car though.

Ok then... Ran the COBRA and got a 1:11.052 in 2 laps.
MODS:
Racing exh.
Sport chip
Medium(R3) tires
NITROUS(forgot about it- not used) set at 30.
S/C(equipped)
normal brakes
no controller
Semi-Racing suspension(didn't look for settings)
Ful customise trans(got me like 185mph)
Triple plate clutch
Racing flywheel
Carbon D/S
NO driving aids
NO downforce(not available)
Standard differential
NO A/C controller
Variable controller at standard
no weight balance

I think I'll modify it more and see what happens.

Posted by: Grape Ape

Went back to the track after buying more mods, but not installing them. Ran a 1:08.742 on lap 2. I'm going to change something and see what gives. TIRE time!

1:07.529 with a stepped up tire... Okay, added the R4 tire and beat my old time, but only slightly. Added the brake controller and bumped it to 13(frt and Rr for this event) as well as racing brakes... WANTED to use nitrous, but held off for now. Got a 1:06.357 on lap 2. I could do better, but won't bother for now. Next up is prolly gonna be racing suspension. That always helps.

Earlier mods didn't include mention of weight reduction, just balance. Once I looked to modify more, I noticed the car was already at Stage 2, so I went to Stage 3, bringing this bohemoth down to about 639Kg...Whatever it says. I could get at least a 1:04xx from this car, but not now. I'll do something different. Maybe wait till tomorrow though since I'm tired.

The customized trans works wonders. W/O it, the car's max speed is 154mph. I saw 189 in the later races. W/ NOS that would surely jump to 200 or more, but without it, there isn't enough room on the track. The rest of you are likely doing what I should be... sleeping. Seeya.

I'm having a bitch of a time getting the brakes set up on my GT. I either don't get enough brake and don't slow down, or I get to much and the brakes chatter. WTF???

Holy smokes, batman! I ain't even a contender anymore!

I'll have to look into that. I can't remember them being adjustable, it's been so long since I did anything but drive it. I know the gearing can be adjusted, but it's best where you get it, unless you're doing the high speed race... The 5 lap one against those P1 or whatever cars. They include the ones like Audi R8's. In that race, I opened topend a bit so I could draft by on the last lap. It works pretty well, since the other cars are so much more difficult to drive on that track due to the extremely high speeds.

Anyway, if they're adjustable, mine are probably between 17 and 24 both front and rear. I don't really have trouble with braking. The one bad thing about that car is when it finally breaks loose... Then you WILL do a 180 at least, and we all know that will costya...

Still, the other high end racers are even worse, though many are faster. They break loose more easily and are harder to regain control over once it's lost for even a moment. When the tail slides, conventional thinking is to turn the wheels in the opposite direct. Problem is you'll almost always oversteer. I can't make 'em drift worth a darn.

Well not with a car you don't even have, but you can get there. Win that 24hr race and you'll be on your way to the top for sure. Plus, when driving without any control aids, you're learning to be really good at control. It's important to do that too, so you'll be even better with them on. Doing it as you are, you'll force yourself to learn the best lines of the various tracks. I think you managed a better overall than I did with the Cobra without TCS on, at Mid-Field. My average is probably better at this point, but you seem to have a better "best" ET.

Posted by: John

TVR Speed 12 will run at 280+ MPH on the test track without any problems whatsoever. It's rock solid stable and storms past every other car on the track without drafting.

The fastest LMP style car like the Audi R8 is the Bently Speed 8. Either one will win you that race easily. Shame it only gives you about 20K and a car with no monetary value to sell.

Posted by: Grape Ape

Never tried the Speed12 for that race. Wouldn't have thought it would handle the corners at those speeds. I'll try it sometime, prolly next week. Football is on now and I won't have time till at least Saturday because there's ALWAYS someone wanting to watch tv when I'm home and I'm too lazy to take the game to another tv. Actually, it's just that it's connected to the 42" screen and I really like the view.

Posted by: Grape Ape

Checked into my cars and have several Lotus' to choose from. Grabbed the Elise 111R and took it to Mid-Field. Got a 1:19.1xx on lap 1... Lap 2 was a 1:16.277 and I suspect I'll beat that in a few more laps. This little car handles GREAT! I have no idea what mods I've done. I clicked "get in" and went right to the track with it. I'll look later, but I suspect I have many things done to this car. It was probably needed somewhere along the way.

I went about 15-20 laps, making no changes, but looking at options between laps. The car isn't modified as much I thought, but it's definitely got alot done to it. There's a Stage 2 turbo, but R1 tires. Racing exhaust, but semi-racing suspension. Anyway, best lap with that car so far(and I'm prolly done with it) is 1:12.143 and that will do for me presently. I think I really could get a 1:10.xxx with this one. On to others. What was the other Lotus? I don't think I have it.

EDIT: Okay, Esprit Turbo and the 190... I'll see if I have either, and both are surely modified if'n ado ...

Posted by: Grape Ape

I just got into the '87 Turbo Esprit HC or whatever they call it. Got a 1:26.910 on lap 2 after buying mods for it. I had a 1:25.xxx before stopping to buy parts. I haven't installed any and expect this car will have some giddyup when I do. We'll see.

EDIT: Took that and modified it and managed a 1:13.915 in 3 more laps. It's got more, but I have to learn how to drive it better before I try to get a 1:10.xxx with it.

*sticks out tongue and burns GT4 disc*

Posted by: Grape Ape

I was gonna spend more time with that last night, but decided to look into the GT car and some other ones too. I really haven't played the game in several months before this thread, so it's kinda fun agian.

I looked at the GT brakes. Mine, as suspected, hadn't been adjusted. So I left them at the 3 setting and did some wet course racing(only one track for that as far as I know) to take in another 60K and a car I don't have a need for. After that, I went to the only track in the GT series(Extreme Events) I haen't whipped, Nurburgring. I still haven't won the race, but I took 3rd and the best previous was 6th(or dead last). This game needs more cars to compete against. 6th wouldn't seem so aweful in a field of 12.

Now I've got work to do, so I'm out for awhile. Practice that GT4 game about another 6-8 months before you burn it. Afterall, most of us have had it for a few years now.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Yeah, I think I will. However, I want a wheel to go with it. That'd be awesome.

How about THIS wheel? Leather wrapped steel wheel, sequential 6-speed shifter, stainless steel pedals, clutch pedal....

All I can say is...I want one!!!

Posted by: Geargrabber

In the '87 Lotus Hatchback I can get a 1'25.xx on midfield with just a flywheel. That car is a bear to drive.

The wheel to get is the Logitech driving force pro. I just used one last night for the first time. WOW! It gives you ten times the brake and gas modulation (trailbraking is now possible) and the wheel is nearly identical to a real car in terms of feedback and turning. You can control turning in much better. I'll be getting one of these ASAP. On a sidenote it's almost as if it were made fro GT4. Using it for NFS Carbon was a complete joke. Hmmm...

Posted by: Grape Ape

The wheels may both have been made with GT4 in mind. The game itself has been so HUGE it's amazing. I'm playing it again and running the Trial Mountain Circuit track. With the GT car, I've managed a 1:06.577 and I know "better" is possible because I screwed up so much on various parts during different laps. I would think at least a 1:05.xxx is possible if I could drive better!

EDIT: Got it down to a 1:06.070, then a few laps later, a 1:06.008... About 10 laps later, finally fixed a few mistakes in my corners and got a 1:05.373 to finish my practice session with the 1:05.xxx I hoped for. I wouldn't be shocked if a good driver or even a decent driver with a wheel and pedals could see a 1:00 or maybe even better.

Posted by: Grape Ape

Just finished playing GT4... Did the Circuit De La Sarthe II race.... 24hrs of agony. The race isn't so bad, but 24hr anything is a pain. The car I won is a Bentley Speed 8. It's pretty fast, but I'm not interested in finding out how good it is right now. My console probably needs the rest. This is the longest it's been on since winning the Le Mans 24 about a year ago. I'm off to visit my niece and her family. That means I might be in a bad mood when I get home(3 young children) so I decided to post now, while I feel ok.

Posted by: Geargrabber

You actually RACED the 24 hr stuff? Please tell me you did it in directors mode!

Posted by: Grape Ape

I did most of the Sarthe II in directors mode and almost ALL the Le Mans in A-spec. That one took me 3 days and then some. This last one went pretty well. All I did was bump it to X3 speed a few times and otherwise, let it roll except about 45min worth, which I did myself. I actuallly got a better lap speed than the computer did too. I think I could get a 3:00 if I tried. Instead, wit a few pretty harsh goofs, I netted a 3:02.7xx and thought it wasn't all bad. I feel too old for the game itself anymore, but there is still some interest in beating as much as possible. In the coming days or weeks, I intend to do the Sarthe "I" race and again, I'll let the computer do most of it or it will bore me to tears.

You have to do the Le Mans if you want the GT car, but you can do it in Directors Mode. I just didn't know that at the time. Seemed like it was stopping at the pit and not restarting on its own. This time, I let it take the time it needed. I'm glad to have the Bentley now, since you can't just buy it. If it was priced, I'd probably sell mine to get the R8 or whatever, which I like more. I think that or a similar car may be my next purcahse. But at 4.5M, I'm not sure I wanna spend the credits. You know, do that and then find something else you want more, but have to wait to buy that. We'll see how that goes, since most of it is boring now. I may just get one of them and see what I can do with it. Some of the slower cars actually seem more appealing though. I have nearly 6M credits now, so what the heck...

Posted by: Grape Ape

I'm running(the game is anyway) the 8hr Motegi endurance race. I keep setting it to X3 speed and waiting till a pitstop to do it all over again. Currently, and I started near 9:30pm, we're 3hr 26min into this race and I have a ...ooops, pit stop... okay then... nearly 10 lap lead over the Mugen 350Z(which I didn't know they had here). Okay, 10 laps ahead...

3hr 30min in, and I think I'll complete this much quicker than allowing it to run normally, even with the stops causing me to redo the X3 change each time I pit.

The setup is on "cruise" and it allows me 20 laps per set of tires. Those tires are SPORTS, the #1 version, so traction is limited too. But my car.. I spent 1M on the Team Oreca Viper before the race and decided this would be a great break in for that car. It's working out wonderfully at this point. I just wonder what will be the next car I win. That's the only reason I'm even doing this race. Well, that and it's one of 3 in the category I haven't yet completed. I think only 5 races remain in the long race series' on this game.

Posted by: Grape Ape

Done... Took too long regardless, but I know it could've been worse. Won the Honda NSX LM Edition. Not much of a car for me, but it's not bad. Bedtime! I'm glad that one is over. I have at least 3 more 24hr races to do though(and one 9hr), and I wonder if I'll ever play this game again after those are completed. I'd like to win another GT car, but that probably won't happen unless I beat Le Mans again and I don't think I'm up for it. Have fun with your ventures in this one folks.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Hmm. If you put this game aside...will you send me your memory card?

Posted by: 65fairlane

Wow you guys are good at this game. I suck and use it primarily to race verses mode with whoever is around and wants to give it a go.

Can I copy it completely and send it out? If so, send me a card and I'll gladly do it. Then you'll be bored like me... I mean, at this point I only wish it was over for the most part. I'm about 1hr away from completing Sarthe I and I did a bit of driving myself, but there's no chance I was going to try the whole race. I'll know what I've won shortly. I think I could pull over now and wait, and still win the race. Currently, I see a 17 lap lead over #2(Nissan R92CP Race Car '92) and a 63 lap lead over #6(Chevrolet Corvette C5R). I feel bad they used the C5R in this race, what with the other cars being what I would call P1 cars. I wimped out and used my Formula GT car. It's fast.

This is my last Endurance race. It leaves me with basically just the driving skills races and a dozen or so dirt/snow races. I think I've even completed the specific one make cup races, but it takes so long to go through and look at all of them, I don't much care!!

I'm also surprised I even broke this game out again. It had been ages since I last played and now I remember why. I did go through some of the licensing tests again though, to see if I could do better than 1 gold and 14 silvers. I did better, but don't know how much overall. And I got bored again.

Posted by: 65fairlane

I think if you go to your system browser without a game in you should be able to copy from memory card slot 1 to slot 2, but I am not 100% positive (Think 97%).

Posted by: Grape Ape

I think you can too, but I'm not sure if you can transfer all the data or just part. Which part do you want, the finished races, or the cars that help win them?

I got the R8 for winning the Sarthe I, if I didn't say that already. Not much of a bargain really, but the 1.2M credits will come in handy since I bought the 1M Oreca car. That's nice, but the R8 is too slow, topping out at like 237mph on it's own and only 242 in the draft. I went all out with the gearset and still only got there, and it cost me a win in the "Like the Wind" race. I was ticked, so I went and made my Saleen S7 capable of winning it... Got a 1:34.xxx with the S7... Shouldn't BE able to go 170mph, but it can.

Posted by: John

I'm not going to tell you again. Fastest car in the TVR Speed 12 (280+ MPH). Fastest race car is the Bentley Speed 8.

Posted by: John

BTW, send me a card and all you'll have left to win is the Formula cup and a few of the driving missions. I have all licenses but no golds in the license tests. I haven't been playing as long and my win percentage isn't as good as Grape Ape's but I'm farther along than he is.

Then again, the whole fun of the game is to go and win the races yourself.

I used the Speed 8. I wanted more of a challenge, so I used what I knew wasn't that fast. The Speed 8 is incredible, but I won that race before the car. If I can get a Saleen to 270 or more, I think it's great! Try that out, btw. You'll love the "handling" it offers.

SEND US BOTH A CARD!!! I'm done with the GT cup too. I still have 60 bronze medals though! As of today, well yesterday, I'm 91% complete with the game. Those "special condition events" aren't so special. I like most of 'em, but they have a way of pissing me off because of the penalties. The car you're against can ram you into a wall and you'll be hit with 5sec for hitting the wall... Hit it back get another 5 for doing that.

Oh and hey wait a minute... I only allowed the game to complete the majority of 3 races for me, which I hadn't previously won. Two 24's and a 9hr. I don't have enough time for it, aside from being bored with a 20 lap lead midway through a race.

Took my R8 to the test course and made some mods. Netted a 1.31:502 lap w/o the aid of nitrous. I can do better, but haven't yet. Got the car to nearly 280mph.

EDIT: 1.29:501

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Ok, I just started playing GT4 again here a week or two ago.

In case y'all've forgotten, I have a 1992 Mitsubishi Lancer GSR, 1998 Lotus Elise 190 Sport, and a 1992 RX-7 Type RZ (FD, J).

Before today I had never completed any races outside of the beginner's cup or w/e they call it. Lame, I know, but I guess I kinda stink at the game. Anyhoo, I took my RX-7 and completed Mazda's RE Cup. And won. WOW!!! I should have been doing that all along! With winning and then selling the prize car, I got $40k!!! That's SWEET!

So, now, my RX-7 is almost finished. Once I get it ported & polished, get the last stage of weight reduction, and get the roll cage, it'll have the best of everything (except I have a 1.5-way limited slip instead of the fully-customizable one).

At any rate, my RX-7 is now making 578hp @ 6500rpm, 452lb-ft@ 5000rpm, and weighs 1119kg. It has a top speed of 178.72mph.

However, the best part is the 1/4 mile. I just realized you can run the 1/4; which is awesome!!! Of course I took my baby to the strip, and after changing the rear-end ratio to 3.55 (left each gear's ratio alone), she layed down a 10.499 @ 139!!!!!!!

I then watched the replay and used a stop watch and clockd 0-60 as somewhere around 2.95 seconds.

I love this car!!

Now, a few questions. I think I'm going to make my Lancer a rally car and then buy a SKyline or a 3000GT for my AWD road racer. What do you think of that plan? Which should I choose?

Also, since my Elise is so old, I've decided I'm not going to put too much money into it and replace it with another MR car; perhaps a NSX?

What're your thoughts/comments?

Any recent successes you wanna share? Share 'em!!

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Oh, oh, I almost forgot....no, wait...I did forget....well, anyway...

Yesterday I attended a track meet at Mid-Field Raceway with my (then not as ferocious) RX-7. I was lined up against a 1989 Mutsubishi HSR-111, 2000 Corvette Z06, 1966 AC 427 S/C, 2003 Viper SRT-10, and a 1987 RUF CTR "Yellow Bird".

Well, I think I did pretty good. It was a lot of fun. I didn't mean to play it for too long, but I got into this battle with one other guy, always trying to be less and less behind him, then trying to be more and more ahead of him. Since we started off from the pits at different times, I never caught up with him (and don't know which one it was, actually) during the 17 laps, but it was fun to look at your time relative to first/second place and each 'check point'.

So, anyhoo, through 17 laps of gruelling self-improvement, I layed down a 1'13.981 lap. And of course I've forgotten what I had the driving aids set to. I probably had the oversteer/understeer set to default, but I *think* I had TCS turned off.

Anyhoo, good times...

Posted by: Grape Ape

I haven't played since sometime around my last response. I can't concentrate on it at the moment, but I'll try to have it in mind in a day or two. Then maybe I can help out.

Posted by: merczephyr

It's been too nice outside to play video games...

Posted by: Grape Ape

You're right. I've been spending most of my time outside as of late. Running the dogs, riding motorcycles, and much more has taken much of my time. My PS2 is put away again and I can't be sure when I'll bring it back out, but it may be chili by then.
