I need to change the Fuel regulator on a 1999 Firebird with a 3.8L. I was wondering if someone could tell me how...I briefly looked at it, and it looks like it is part of the fuel rail ? Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks.

Offf, I don't know about the 3.8, what make you think it is the regulator?

It was starting hard, takes like 3-4 cranks than finally starts. Also has a ruff idel. I changed the plugs, wires, air and fuel filter and that was not it. I Was hoping not the Fuel pump. So I brought it to a Pontiac shop, and they said it was the Fuel Presure Regulator. I said you sure and they said yes..... I did not want to pay $300. to have them fix it, allthought I bought the stock regulator and it was $65.00. I looked at it and I see that it is on the back of the fuel rack. It looks like ( From the new one I bought ) it just push in with O rings. I tried today taking the old one off, and had no luck...The old one is really in there, so I don't know if I'm doing it wrong or is there something I'm not seeing on how to get it out, since the new one seems to just push in?? Help!!

As with most fuel rail stuff it does push in, however there is probably some sort of bolt or clip holding it in.

Thanks...It's just so far back, I dont feel anything around it or can see any kind of bolt to hold it in...I'm almost thinking I have to remove the fuel rail to do it. Would you know anywere I might be able to find a step by step guide, or even a picture...Thanks tho for the replies, any help is appreciated..

You might be able to find out in a Haynes or Chilton's manual.
I was doing a Google search about this and found out the old 305tpi take a special tool to remove the regulator. Not sure if the 3.8 does too or not, but it wouldn't surprise me. The guys at the local auto parts store might know (Advance or NAPA are usually good, AutoZone employees don't seem to know anything around here).

Where did you see this tool? I really appreciate all the help also...Really, I just looked at it again and I see no way how this thing is conected in there put pressed, of course its not, but from the front and feeling behind it I have no idea on how to get it out....( Well besides get a manual, or get input here )
Thanks!

You may have to pull he fuel rail, that sucks I know but then you can re o-ring your injectors, I know when I had my 91 vettel the regulator came apart and you could replace the insides of it.

I have never pulled a Fuel rail yet. I have been reading how on some sites tonight tho....Do I have to change the O rings on the injectors? Also I read
there are four bolts holding it down, none in the back of the engine I hope??

LS1 MOPAR TURBO, Thanks for that site!! It's Hugh!!! Good looking out!! I'll keep looking there also.....If you see anything else in your travels let me know...

You should still hang around here though, we get some good topics of discussion.
You don't have to change the o-rings but it is a cheap and easy piece of mind.
The four bolts should be easy and then you just rock the whole assembly back and forth until the injectors pop out of the intake.
