Commercial diesel, regular pump diesel whats the difference and will the CD hurt your engine.

Commercial diesel? Would that be the same as "industrial" or "off-road deisel" ya think?

If it is, this diesel is red(dyed) so that it stands out from on-road diesel. It is illegal to use in highway equipment, apparently due to a sulfer content difference. Aside from that, it will burn in any diesel engine as normal, but I wouldn't run in it the newest diesels because they have too much emission equipment to ruin. I filled at a Murphy Oil a couple yrs ago and when I was topping off, noticed I was getting off-road diesel. I was PISSED! You can be fined 10K if you're caught with that in a tagged vehicle. Worse at the moment, I was paying standard price for fuel I could have gotten for at least $.50 less per gallon at any time.

Those are the only two diesels I know of, aside from bio-diesel.

If it is used on the road, it has to meet federal emissions standards. Anything else is illegal for on road use.

Beyond that, off-road/agricultural diesel usually has a higher sulfer content and less additives/detergents. It also OK to use as fuel-oil in heaters and such like kerosene. Like Grape Ape already said, it's cheaper but, in the newer diesels, it can screw stuff up royally and end up being way more expensive to fix. The fines are steep if you get caught with it in an on-road, emissions tagged vehicle. I think $5,000 is minimum in NJ for a first offense. It's totally not worth the 50 cents a gallon difference.

You'll get better mileage with the on-road stuff anyway. The cars are tuned for it whereas the off-road stuff has properties different enough that the computers may not be able to fully compensate so they end up in limp-home or over-heating mode and run rich, dumping excess raw fuel to keep the engine cool and chamber temps down.

My Dad's '08 takes some kinda special diesel. I can't remember what kind though. Probably something to do with it having cats for '08.

More than the cats really... Take a look at Fords website about the latest PowerStroke... It's got emissions crap embedded in the very design of the engine.

The diesel it required is supposedly the only on-road diesel available at standard fuel stations today. You may see stickers left on pumps at various stations telling you not to use that fuel for 2007 and later vehicles. All stations should now be using the proper fuel though. I read that it now has a lower than ever sulfur content, but I'm no fuel guru. I just know that I was pissed when I first noticed the stickers, expecting the price of diesel to rise because of it, in the near future... Of course, ALL fuels have a noted price increase as of late.

That's it... low sulfur!

It's 10 cents a liter less. It just says commercial Diesel on the pump. It's the same stuff the highway rigs use. I have to add an additive to my fuel because of the low sulpher content.

Seems if it cost that much less, you've found something not legal in America for street use. You guys have some differences in these rules, prolly.

If the rigs use it and you don't see a sign saying you can't, save some money... But do you have a diesel? Cause....uhhh... It WILL hurt your gas engine!

Yup

Oh yeah... Now I remember something about going to get the pick up... Good on ya! These trucks are good ones. I'd have sold ya mine for less... but it's also a 1993 model. Most importantly, it would do you little good because it's a 2WD, made for FL, dontchano!
