Sadly he lost his own life to do it...
A college friend of mine was in a motorcycle accident early Wednesday morning (about 1:00am). A witness was behind him and described the incident.
He was riding home, sober, obeying the speed limit but on an unlit, divided four lane state highway. Apparently a deer was running across the road and actually hit the left side of the bike knocking him off. When he hit the ground his helmet came off and he sustained extensive head trauma.
He was air lifted to Atlanta Medical Center and went into surgery to relieve pressure in his scull and to stablilze him. By the time he was in surgery an EEG monitor was showing little to no brain activity. He was pronounced brain dead yesterday morning. He had no other injuries either and would have probably stood up and walked away if his helmet stayed on.
His family agreed to donate his organs to help others in need. It took most of yesterday to type him and find organ matches then they performed the surgery late last night. Lifelink provided a list of where the organs went but not to who. I believe his heart went to California, kidneys to Ohio, liver to Philadelphia and other organs around the country.
He was a good friend, and a great person and will be missed. I feel for his family and his 12 year old son who lost a good role model.
RIP Carlos. Your friends will be celebrating your life this weekend.
