Is my instructor stupid? or did I hit the jackpot?

I've been taking a night class on network security for the past couple of months. Instead of a final exam, the instructor gave us a group project.

So my group was given a case study involving a hospital and several outpatient clinics. We were told that it listed the various security arrangements each of those previously independant entities had to keep their patients' medical records safe. We were then to wade through the mess and come up with a comprehensive plan for ALL of the clinics and hospital to share. So I've been reading the paperwork I was given, i doesn't say ANYTHING about the old security techiniques. It does give several pages on what the company set up AFTER the merger. So if I'm reading this correctly, all we have to do is type this up in a form and pretend to be proposing something that's already in practice.....no thought required whatsoever. It's already got everything from backup policies to what kind of locks are to be installed on the door leading to the database room.

I'm just sitting here trying to figure out if teachers these days are really thisw stupid? Or am I somehow missing something that would require the 4 weeks of effort the instructor gave us to work on this.

Hell, he even gave us a template of the form he wants it turned in as. It's almost literally fill in the blanks frmo where I sit. This guy is supposedly an admin at teh NASA facilities at Edwards and Vandenberg, so I have difficulty beleiveing he would make it this easy.

Maybe there are just two versions of the case study... a before which is what he was supposed to give you and an after that tells what they actually did... he screwed up and gave you the wrong copies... I mean, it's not like he is a rocket scientist or something....er..... wait

Looks like this is a gimmee A. Compared notes when I got to class and everyone has the same thing I do. So he gave us the answers, we just have to type it up pretty and make it look like a proposal.

Well in a case study you generally just report on what has already been done. Speaking from experience, when I am busy I love an easy assignment, it is so much easier and quicker to grade. When everyone gets it and does it right it takes me 2 hours to grade 40 copies of an assignment, if the students have no clue it takes me 5 or 6.

For the classes i am taking I prefer larger projects to finals, I learn more from working a real complex problem on my own time then trying to work a test in an hour and a half.
