what happens when a redneck gets pissed about his S-10 getting out ran by a riced out Honda Accord...this is it.

This truck was put together in 2003-2004 because this guy got beat by a Accord after dropping a shit load of cash on a souped up 2.8L for this S-10. He drove the truck in to a shop and it rolled out 6 months later with this engine in it. He never got everything right (spent some descent $$ on the bottom end, and couldn't afford a good carb, ignition, etc.). It went through a couple of owners and sat until the fall of 2005 when my buddy picked it up for $1200. Over the course of the last year he has gotten it running/driving and has been beating the hell out of it at the local 8th mile strip. When he first got it driveable he eeked out some high 9 second 8th mile times. A the end of the season last year, he had got it down to consistent 8.1X's. He's only broke 1 axle. last Friday we spent 10 hours doing a 2 hour rear end swap. Hold your breath...it now has a stock 10 bolt with a Richmond mini spool, and 3.42 gears. Most of last year it had 3.08's and welded spider gears. Last fall it dyno'd at 505 HP and 553 Tq at the wheels with stock rockers/RV cam/junk 750 Holley. At that time we found out it has a Scat stroker crank. We talked to the engine builder, and he says it is 496 cid. He just put 1.7 roller rockers/hydraulic roller lifters/and a Lunati cam, and a good, albeit well used, 950 street demon carb. Now if he'd just get some descent headers. He ran a best of 7.67 @ 94 with a 1.69 60'. Not bad for an old beater that's still street legal.

Just thought you'd all enjoy an actual car performance post for a change. Let me know what you think.

Whaooo! Somebody got ahold athem a reciprocating saw!
It's all good, though.
You ain't just whisltin' Dixie when you say "now if he could just get some decent headers"! Those are sad! Especially the left header with the "hammered in" area (evidently, for streering rod clearance).
He'll gain some power with good headers, to say the least.
Does he set the timing from the driver's seat?
I really do think it's a hack job, but I'm sure most of that comes from previous owners and he's just workin' with what he has. And the fact is, that thing hauls arse. That makes it cool.

The back half of the radio has been cut off with a band saw. remove the radio and air vent cover to change the timing. Yes it is a severe hack job, but he's slowly getting it fixed up.

Holy Crap that is the worst hack job I have ever seen... and I live where hack jobs are common place... at least it hauls ass
