Island Dragway...finally got this bad boy back together!

Heading up to Island Dragway in Great Meadows, NJ for test and tune. They'll have the Gassers there and something about some Impala thing. We're hitting the track for the test and tune. If all goes well, we'll hit the Gambler's race at Atco on Tuesday to get everything dialed in and then it's off to Storman Norman on June 1st, 2nd and 3rd at Atco!

The car's straight. It tweaked the K-member but we replaced that. Had it balanced on Wednesday. The dude scaled it and said it was dead on at 50/50, he didn't have to do anything but when the intercooler gets filled up, it'll throw it off a bit so we might have to adjust something but it's not a big enough deal to worry about it. The car weighs in at 3192.26 pounds with driver.

Taking several cameras up with us including video. I should have some good shots to share. Oh, "crew shirts" were passed out last night. Nice white ones with blue writing. Not the best for getting dirty but good for hot and sunny days. I'll have to bring a couple spare shirts so the crew shirt don't get all shitted up.

Well, how did the test and tune go?

Like crap. The car ran good but the driver was having an off day. That and the track prep sucked balls. It wouldn't handle any power unless you had gigantic full-on drag slicks. He'd blow away the tires just after the 60 ft no matter what he did. He even laid off the trans-brake one run and just used the foot brake and it till wasted the tires by the 100 foot mark.

Fastest run was the foot brake run, he coasted from about 1/8th track and still ran a 10.12 at 140 some odd MPH. They weren't handing out time slips because the printer was broken so everyone had a run sheet with handwritten numbers and we couldn't read the MPH on most of the runs.

It wasn't a bust though. The driver had a big scare on the first run when the car made a sharp left off the line and almost T-boned the other competitor. We're not really sure what happened. Nothing broke so he must have gotten into the marbles a tad. He left a little crooked. He saved it though. It shooke him up good but at least he got back in the seat for another run.

There were gassers there, a whole 6 of them. It was a "Gasser Day" too and the starting line dud esaid it was a good turnout. I guess the track was more podunk than I thought if 6 Gassers was a good turnout for a special event. By the end of the 2nd round, only 3 were still running though. Not because of elimination though. There was also an shitload of Impalas there. There was some Impala club meet. Alot of them were running street rubber. I think that's why the track prep sucked. The radials act like erasers on the VHT and just ball it all up and throw it out the back. The slicks will stick like glue to it though because of the softer compounds.

Ah well, it was a good day for a TandT day. Nothing broke, driver got good seat time and experience and we passed and pretty through tech inspection with flying colors. Got compliments on the car too. I got pretty toasty though. I guess 12 hours in the sun is too much for any sunscreen.
