LT1, LT1: What's the difference?

Just wondering if anyone out there knows what the difference is between the 92-96 corvette LT1 rated at 300 HP and the 93-97 Camaro/Firebird LT1 rated at 275-285HP. Did they rate it lower to keep the Corvette looking better, or were there actual differences between the two motors. I've looked at every spec sheet I could find on the two and so far come up with nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Very little difference. The vettes have true dual exhaust. Chevy always go's up a few ponies on a motor every year or so. L-98's were the same way. The motors are basically the same. Minor cam changes or head changes may be to blame. LS1's also went up from '97 to '01 (I think it was) and it was cam related along with intake changes I think.

LT1 Vettes crank was different and they had a 4 bolt main where as the F-bodies had a 2 bolt main.
Head design is the same between the cars. Exhaust manifolds are different.

Thanks guys, the sad part is you guys just told me more than I've been able to find out doing countless searches on my own. I guess LT1s aren't all that popular.

I have had two LT1s. They were good cars, there are a ton of parts out there for them
LS1tech.com has a LT1 sections with lots of good info.
Is it an auto or 6 speed?

It's an Automatic. I almost didn't get it for that reason but my sister had a 93 Z28 w/ the 6 speed and a flowmaster. We ran them when I took it for a test drive and the two were so evenly matched I couldn't turn the thing down. Of course the little performance button behind the shifter makes a big difference.
