Classic or Antique?

Shouldn't the term "Classic Muscle Cars", which are from the 60's and early 70's really be called "Antique Muscle Cars" now? Any car over 30 yrs old is considered Antique at the Department of Motor Vehicles...

..Classic muscle cars would then be, late 70's to mid 80's.....

You're prolly right... But then, they were never really "classic" cars anyway because car collectors and so forth say only cars made prior to 1942 should be considered "classics" due to design changes after the war.

Used to be, any car between 20 and 30 was considered a classic... But no.... "serious" collectors don't want that anymore...

I say call 'em antique now too!

I prefer to classify muscle cars as their own entity in which age is meaningless.

Amen!

The term 'Muscle Car' refers much more to a persona, an image, an idea, rather than to a specific set of years, IMO.

However, of course the cars that meet that 'concept' of a muscle car are limited to a specific set of years. But it's still much more about the attitude the vehicle projects.

That era called "Muscle Cars" is all it's own and those cars are all "classic antiques" at this point... Still, as others see it, they are all alone in their own special class.

and when someone classifies a "Classic Muscle Car" many deem the late 60's and early 70's as such...YET, the ones from the late 70's to late 80's is considered what then? You can't really call them modern, because you have the 90's and 00's.....

But the "Muscle Car" era didn't include 80's models... In my estimation, that era went from 1962(64 by most- thanks GTO) until emissions ruined the game in 1973 models. Some say that OldsmoPile and/or Pontiac still built them until around 1979, when the SD 455 was fully removed from production. I say HOG WASH!! Emissions killed the era in '72. Hence "Modern Muscle Cars" like many of us have today.
