Yeah, Maryland International Raceway, last Friday.
That yellow car he posted? It owns the track record for drag radials now. The driver/owner's name is Alex Vrettos IIRC. I dunno if John was there I didn't introduce myself to anyone but I was and saw it with my own two eyes. I was surprised the rain held off long enough for anyone to get any runs in. It broke an axle, passenger side it looks like. Not pretty but that car stood up on the run it broke and launched hard. Made a godawful racket out the big end!
Those Corupt Racing guys are pretty cool. They said they were gonna patch it back up and run it again in another couple of weeks and by then the new 9 inch rear should be ready for when the 8.8 breaks again.
I dunno, looks like yellow is MUCH faster on street tires than purple...or should I say Lavender?

Any Mustang racer with a brain knows the 8.8 is superior to the 9 these days... But whatever. Maybe they want quick change capabilities...

Fist of all, it's generally stronger from the start...
Next, the only advantage anyone can really point to favoring the 9 is the quick change feature of the units design.
Next, the 8.8 has proven to handle every bit the power a 9 has dealt with.
And most 8.8's are lighter than the 9, as well as generally, less expensive.

Got any real facts to back those claims up or is this just more of your experience?

Ask the owner why there isn't ALREADY a 9" rear in the car... I can't get through to you, but maybe he can.
A fully ready Curry 9" third member can sell for about $1,400.00
No axles, no outer bearings, no axle tubes... none of it... Just a completed 3rd member... That would be a nodular 9" with a choice of gears, say 3.70:1 or 3.50:1 and Detriot 31spline Tru-Trac... 35spline could probably be had for even less, by about $100.00 and other builds(stronger? Maybe not) can be had for less.
For aout $300.00 less than the above, one could upgrade their 8.8" rear with overpriced Ford components which match that of the 9" in end result... 31spline, etc. They don't need to buy the axle tubes, center section, or 3rd member... And they get a Detriot Locker(spools generally cost even less). For the other $300.00, they can get C-clip eliminators(and have them installed) anyway. Axle spline size won't usually change the price until 35splines are used.
Traction Lock and others may cost a bit less, around $1,000.00 for the 9" without axle housing, tubes, etc.
A Currie 9" housing and axle assembly without the 3rd member goes for about $1,000.00 as well... To buy and build a 9" complete rear for a Mustang(bolt in unit), you're looking about about $2,000-2500.00... The 8.8" can be modified to work as well for much less money.
And for good measure... http://www.carcraft.com/techarticle..._end/index.html
See for yourself... 8.8's are cheaper, particularly for a Mustang... No, it isn't "just me" who says what I say... People like me do know that there are quicker cars than the yellow one you're talking about, still using 8.8's... There are guys like Gene Wilson(91 "Screaming Banana) who've managed well over 700rwhp with single turbo cars(his had a 5.4L and only 13 lb boost), still using 8.8's and the red 95 GTS which ran 8.2's had an 8.8 as well. Back even further, there were cars similar to John Gullett's or Billy Glidden's running 7's with 8.8's. More recently, Lou Proto has gone 7.7's with an 8.8 out back...
The facts appear clear... Lighter, can be built as strong and some parts are stronger, costs less... Do the math, wizard...

Btw, Proto's car uses a big block with nitrous... and it's a ragtop...

If he was sure the 8.8 wouldn't work, why would he have used it rather than switching? No matter...
The 8.8 can be built stronger than the 9 because, like the Chevy 12bolt, they have a larger pinion shaft... If he's spending over 5K on the unit he'll get next, the likelihood of that being an actual 9" rear is fairly small... Custom built using the same size ring & pinion is one thing... Otherwise, there are few differences to be noted... Either can have upgraded axles, etc.
What the 8.8 can handle would depend on many different factors though... Vehicle weight is obvious, but then the gear ratio, transmission used, overall suspension setup, torque converter, launch technique... rpm of launch... Tire size... There are several factors. As I mentioned, Lou Proto has gone deep 7's with an 8.8... I think his car is heavier and has a larger engine making plenty more than 700... More like 1300rwhp and then some. I read it was a big block... If it is, torque is a given. Add nitrous, torque increases accordingly.
Seems that the new idea is to purchase a custom floater housing of sorts. Those can be had about about $3,200. Once completely built with all needed parts, 5K is close.
If the yellow car got to 2100rwhp on the dyno and made even more, why hasn't it gone 6.5's? Or has it, and nobody told? Or was it an engine dyno? 5.0's on the 1/8th is awesome... Not tryin' to knock it, but Tim Lynch has a similar setup, estimated around 2000rwhp... It's gone 6.5's on the 1/4 and 4.3's on the 1/8th. That's the same class the yellow car is built to compete it, right?
Fruitless discussion really... As for the rear, clearly it's going custom and not a true 9" as Ford built it. That does change the entire equation.

Do you ever shut your mouth? This dude is working with setups that are far beyond any monkey-ass, glorified street racer that you are used to! But you never fail to open your mouth and spew excrement that is totally irrelevant!
You said once that you forgot more about cars than I will ever know. Well, it looks like you forgot everything you ever learn.
You are such a fucking tool! Is this all you have to do with your time? Run your mouth on a net forum and live vicariously in the past?
