Don't you just LOVE a clean car?

I took about 3.5 to 4 hours yesterday to clean up my Jeep. I typically spend a little longer on it when I wash/wax/vacuum it, but I didn’t spend near as much time washing it yesterday. I think I probably waste too much time on washing it most of the time. (Not saying it’s not an important step, but I think I’ve been fairly inefficient with it.)

Anyways, then I waxed it. Both of our waxes (both Turtle wax) have those foam applicators, and I just hate them. You can’t use them but a few times before they start coming apart and flaking into the wax and getting all over your car. Well, yesterday I used a microfiber cloth to apply the wax (also use one for washing, drying, and cleaning windows). I really liked the way that worked.

I then got to work on the windows. I HATE having to clean windows, but I really forced myself to do a decent job and probably spent 20 to 30 minutes on them. Used the same old NAPA aerosol spray I’ve been using, cleaned with a paper towel (actually, about 30 of them!), and then ‘buffed’ the window immediately after with a microfiber cloth. Worked really well. I’m certainly VERY happy. Cleanest I think my windows have EVER been. Now, on a side note, I keep hearing people talking about how great using newspaper works. I think I may give that a try next time.

Then I spent another 20 minutes or so vacuuming it out.

Ever since yesterday I’ve just been so happy about how good it looks. It’s certainly not the most thorough I’ve been, as I didn’t even touch the door jambs or the engine bay, but the body still looks as good, and with the windows being so clean (as well as the mirrors), it just looks awesome to me. So, of course, I had to take pictures.

But, I went easy. Only took about 60. :p

I think it looks pretty good for a 1995 Cherokee with 153,000 miles on it. However, it does have two weird streaks on the passenger side where the paint is rubbing off. And, I’d also like to repaint the bumpers and windshield wipers sometime this summer as well as doing something with the grill.

Let me know what you think!

Tinted side window:

Bring it!

Yes, that's a pure, perfect reflection of Dad's Jetta in the window and then the mirror. I love clean glass!

Amp under my seat. I made the wires a little neater, though I really should re-run (and replace!) the speaker wires.

Pretty clean interior.

Oh yeah, that's my Mark Knopfler/Emmylou Harris "All the Roadrunning" CD in the console there. Had it playing the ENTIRE time. I'm surprised my battery didn't die.

Pioneer Premier HU.

Sorry for such a long post and so many pictures...I'm just really excited about it. Which is pretty awesome seeing as how I've had it for four or five years now.

Aaaand, if you wanna see more pics (they're full size!), you can view my photobucket album here:

Thanks!

That would be fun, but I'm thinking I take too long and am too inefficient to make much money at that!

It does look good, but that second pic kinda scarred me... I mean scared me.

I recently washed my ExploDer and it didn't look much better... It's 9yrs newer. So you did good.

The interior looks really good, particularly for the age. Have those seats been recovered? No cracked dash or anything! WOW! All you need now is a new brake pedal cover and a rolled back odometer to make it look new.

Side note: Now that it looks so nice, trade it off for something while you can get top dollar!!!

Thanks for the props!!

Oh, and I was going for mean in that pic...right? wasn't I??...yeah...mean...

I'm really fortunate. It's a shame I haven't taken any better care of it, but it's not cosmetically any worse for the wear. And so far the drivetrain hasn't complained either, so maybe they really are as tough as I hear. You can see how I like to 'beat on it' in the other thread.

Seats haven't been recovered. There are a few dark spots on the driver's seat, side of the passenger's seat, and the driver side door's arm rest I'd like to clean up. There's also a gash in the headliner about an inch long, and a small section in the corner where it wants to pull down, and a small crack in the cubby hole under the glove box. Those are pretty much the only interior problems. I'd have to say it is in pretty nice shape.

Yeah, I'm really glad the dash isn't cracked. I'm not really sure why not, but it would be SOOO much different if it were.

I've heard from salesmen that places aren't paying SQUAT for SUV's anymore. CarMax, so I hear, has even stopped accepting them in trade.

Donno about the trade in value much, except to say, JEEP trade in has never been very good. They cost a bunch new... But since they're considered a vehicle to beat on, I suppose that effects the resale.

That's pretty much the nail on the head. A LOT of dealers won't take SUVs or Full size trucks in on trade right now because they are getting stuck with them. They can't sale them to customers and they lose their ass if they take them to the sale. So far we are still taking them in on trade... but we explain to people up front that the bottom has dropped out in their value.

Rain? What's that? Dude, we are so DRY right now! We've pretty much been in a drought for the last 3 years here.

Looks sharp, now invest in a PC (Porter Cable), clay and Zaino...then sit back and watch the shine sparkle....

We sure haven't had too much rain, but a couple weeks ago, we got a serious downpour. My dog food "dishing bowl" was on a table outside... Looked like it took in about 3" of water. Due to design, I think it was about 2" of rain. It took about 1hr and it has rained twice since. Makes for less dust and that's good!

Looks nice, but a car doesn't look REALLY clean until you're Armor-Alled the tyres.

Posted by: bl3wbyu

Thanks for the comments, folks.

I'm not really sure what I think about shining the tires. I certainly used to shine the tires and use armor all on all the black trim. I've stopped, mostly because I'm lazy and don't want to. But I think I prefer the look of the XJ when the tires aren't shined.

Here are two pics from shortly after I got it, when I still used armor all when I cleaned it:

Alright, alright. If you don't have anything nice to say or even any constructive criticism, then just stay out.

I've yet to make any comment directed to you, 20#GSX...and I'd appreciate it if you'd return the favor.
