Surgery SUCKS!!!

What's your threshold for pain? Mine ain't what it used to be, or so it seems. Roughly 19yrs ago, I had surgery to repair an ingoinal hernia which reccurred within 2 months. Yesterday I had another repair because after all this time, I couldn't really wait anymore.

The 1st one hurt plenty, but having been in my 20's, healed pretty quickly. Then came the next... It wasn't as painful to have, but the repair ... WOW!

I'm feelin' it in a big way. The 1st time, they just sliced me open and sewed things up, but this time they put 3 holes in my belly and worked through them... They're small, like 1/2 inch incisions.

Altogether though... PAINFUL!

I haven't taken medication today, but I still feel like sleeping. So much pain though, I've been up most of the night, off and on... Just can't stay asleep. I also feel nauseated and I can hardly move.

Turns out, they put this mesh stuff in, like they told me had been done a couple decades ago... And they put it on BOTH sides! Only found 1 hernia, but the doc asked permission beforehand, if he could do this. I told him if there's another hernia, go ahead and fix it. He told me there was a great risk, so he took steps to prevent it... I'm all good with this, but it HURTS FOLKS!!!

Last surgery I had was about 4 years ago... which puts me at about 23. I had to have my apendix removed. Now that was painful to me... they sliced me open and I couldn't do anything for about a week or so. I'm 6 ft 4 and mostly legs... I was told that made the healing harder because trying to get up and down to use the bathroom or what have you put more stress on my muscles because of the leverage from my legs ... or something like that.

But yes, surgery does suck indeed!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. You must be getting really old or something. J/K, get well soon!

My last surgery was about 4 years ago. It was on my wrist, docs had to sue together 3 of the tendons and repair the nerve. Wasn't really that much pain, other than having to learn to do everything lefthanded for a few months.

At least they made it easy for me to go under. The anesthesiologist was HOT and so were the two med students that were helping out.

Thanks Jay... I wonder if you're right... I've been 29 so long it never dawned on me till now. This pain is ridiculous!!! I haven't taken much medication because it makes me really groggy and it seems as though I'm about to throw up. Haven't yet, but that's prolly because I haven't eaten since about 7:30pm last night.

I'm swollen and sore, but can't see a single stitch!!! They glue'd me! And the 3 areas they cut, plus two smaller ones nearby are bruised, etc. The worst part... I can't FART!!! I can shit, but I can't fart!!

No such luck for me... I did have a wrist repair much like the one to mentioned... But it too was a long way back. Yesterday was the 1st sugery I can recall since the wrist, in 1991. I healed quickly from that and they didn't even put me to sleep. Lotso shots and it hurt, but the real pain showed up when those "shots" wore off!

Oh, and mine was on the LEFT wrist, not the right. And oh yeah, I'm left-handed.

So you and he hit it off prettty good huh? I didn't think you went that way, but after you mentioned the med students too.... geez, I guess if you are going to go you should do all out!!

SHE was hot you asshole! As were the med students I saw. Other than the two lead doctors, every memeber of the surgery team I saw before being knocked out was female.

My sergoens were both men, and that's not the wierd part... FATHER AND SON! I was surprised because I knew the father already, but not the son, but I felt okay, knowing one had major experience and the other would listen to him... My anesthesiologist was a man as well. The other three I was briefly introduced to were women and I couldn't see faces as they were already in the OR when I got there.

Couldn't care less about all that though... I just wish I felt better... 20yrs ago... no problem... Today, damn... I told 'em I'm not so sure about the carpul tunnel(sp) repair. I need time to forget about this one 1st.

I always thought it was fairly high. Between working on cars and doing home remodeling you are always getting cut, burnt or bruised. But one day I think I found my limit....

We own a 1950's post war house that never had central heat or air installed. I had tenants scheduled to move in around April 1st so I had about two weeks to update this house. I had just finished rewiring the house and hung a new air handler in the crawlspace. I went around to chisel a hole in the foundation to run refridgerant lines through. I was using a five pound mini sledge and chisel to break through the block. Well I had a bad swing and hammered my left index finger into the block.

Holy hell that hurt!!! It was the kind of pain that made your vision go white, drop to the ground and puke all at the same time. My finger was actually flattened out a bit and mushroomed at the tip. I broke the distal and middle phalanx and pretty much pounded the meat.

Basically I took the rest of the day off....

Well I really don't think I take much abuse around here. The days of serious debate around here are long since over and I'm left almost entirely with weasels and chumps.

I'd have taken the day off too! Reminds me of having my right middle finger split open when some "new guy" dropped his end of a truss we were moving while building a new home on Palm Beach Island. It was a "double" and 48' long. He dropped his end and the rest was like a rubber band. We were just at the concrete of the second floor and setting it down, then WHAM!! Blood squirted out like I'd popped a bug! Got several shots and stitches that day. That's what I call "being in a pinch" that wasn't needed.

I am feeling much better now, but certainly not 100%. Then again, I haven't felt 100% good since 1989.

All kidding aside... A few years back, one of my employees left 2 - 16' PT 2X8's standing up on the side of the house. I was out in the yard (apparently about 16' away) when one of my guys yells out "Look out, Jay!". Well, it was a little too late. They both hit me at the same time, in the side of the head! I was PISSED! It physically moved me about 3 or 4 ft, but didn't knock me down. I'm not real big, but I' am 6' at 215. I started yelling at them, thinking that someone threw something off of the roof. Then, I realized what had happened, reached up, and felt the gash in my head and the blood pouring out of it! Great, I knew I needed some stitches or something! I ended up with about 10 staples in my head!

Sorry to hear that............... pain is NOT fun.

After that BOZO ran me over in the pits, I remembered how OLD I really was.

Things just don't heal like they did when you were younger. I still have pain in both legs and my lower back. Guess I will just live with it.

Butt, hey, you are still YOUNG yet. You will heal just fine and be back to normal in no time.

The OLE MAN

Posted by: Grape Ape

Thanks OLD MAN... I don't feel very young. But then, it's only been 5 days and I am feeling better overall, just not by much. I lived with the pain for so long before surgery, I figured it must get better... But so far, it still hurts notably more.

I'm feelin' this pain from my groin to my kidneys, front to rear and side to side. It just plain hurts unless I'm lying flat on my back. Getting up from a chair or bed is painful and sitting or lying down is too.

But my BP is normal and so are the things which exit, although that has proven painful as well... So I will manage.

As long as I can be 29, it's gotta be good!

Just because the only sex you can get is from a crackwhore(because he can't fight you off), doesn't create any need for your "shortfalls" to be brought up here.

Go back to catching snapshots of crocodiles in your "developments" canal, jerkyboy.
