LS-1 PLUGS

Ok folks, with 38,000 miles on my 2000 LS-1 I think it is time to change plugs. The dealership says that the OEM's are good for 100,000 but I have a hard time believing that.
What do you think?
What is a recommended replacement? NGK's? Bosch?

Pssst I use AC Delco in my Mopars even. Good plugs. Thanx GM! Hahaha. That's what I would use, avoid gimmick plugs stick with what works.

I would recomend either AC Delco Platnum or NGK Iridium. Both run abou 5.99 a plug. NGK is just a little bit better IMO.

Stay away from Bosch, they are junk, youll loose power and fuel mileage.

I bought a set of Bosch plugs for my 1969 ranger 100, and they seemed to stay pretty clean. Didn't notice any gains or losses either way. Put 'em in my dad's 79 GMC too, same story. I'll stick with Delco, they are cheaper, and they work.

At on time I ran Autolite plugs in my 440 Cuda and at the time they seemed to last longer and provided enough spark.
I respect your opinion to sticK to what works though.
Thanks, Bird of prey.
PS. SHOULD I STAY IN THE SAME HEAT RANGE?

The only reason i would go hotter is if it's usin alot of oil and fouling the plugs... kinda doubt it @ 38,000.... But then again it is a CHEVY! haha

Do NOT get the NGK Iridiums. They are "long life" and not as good for performance. It has been the experience of many an LS1 owner on the boards that the stock plugs start looking fucked up even after 10,000 miles.

You want NGK TR55s

not TR55V or whatever that iridium one is.

You will notice an immediate improvement in idle quality and power. I pulled my stock plugs at 20,000 miles and some had gaps in the upper .060s. Gaps were all over the place. I had more than one electrode broken in half or burned. The stock plugs are shit, do not put more of them in. Use the NGK TR55s and replace every 15k miles or so.

Thanks for the input everyone.
I'll pick up a set of TR55's this week end.

I think you've already got the platinum plugs, probably AC Delcos. They are meant for long life, like the iridium ones. I'd just clean and gap them.

I doubt it Matt, both of my LS1's had the cheapo GM plugs and out of the 16 plugs that came out of both cars there were only 2 electrodes left! the rest were gapped @ .070 since they had burnt off!

I agree with RCowan, the TR55's work great in LS1's, gap em' around .050 - .055
