Need Help With '69 Z/28

I know this should probably go in a different forum, but I need as much help as possible and I figured it would get seen the most here. My step-dad has been looking at buying a '69 Z/28, he has always loved them since he had one way back in the day. Anyway he found one he really likes but some of the things caught my eye and I pointed them out to him. Of course he has to "know" more than me so he won't listen. I don't want him to spend a lot of money on something and it not be what it is supposed to be. So here goes:

Does anybody know of a site that I can use to run the VIN # to get the factory info on the car? The guy that owns it now gave us all the codes, but the dates don't match up. The engine has a april build date, as does the rear-end, but the tranny has a september date. It is an original tranny but I told him that it couldn't be the one that was factory for this car.

But here are the things that really caught my eye first. I looked at a couple pics of the car and picked stuff out, then read the list to make sure. The car has been modied with:

-Bolt-on subframe connectors
-Lackwood traction bars
-Driveshaft safety loop
-Shatterproof bell housing
-Aluminum Waterpump + crank pulleys
-Carter high volume fuel pump
-Mallory Electronic Ign with MSD - 8AL ign box with rev limitor and blaster coil.
-Koni Gas shocks all around
-front coil springs
-Flowmaster 40 series mufflers
-Elderbrock Torqer intake
-13'' clutch

Now to me this says the car was raced, and probably pretty hard. What do you guys think? The owner says the car is stock...don't understand what he considers stock, he also says the car wasn't raced.

Any info you guys can help with would really help. I have the VIN #, the codes and casting numbers. But I would like to find out how this car came from the factory, and what the numbers where on everything from the factory, so I can try to match them up. Thanks guys

First off, it ain't stock, obviously. But here's a place you can check stuff:

http://www.camaros.org/index.shtml

There's general info and decoding. Show your Dad. Also go to the bookstore and look for the Camaro Black Book, it'll have all the bits in there.

If your step-dad doesn't care about original and he's getting it cheap, then I wouldn't worry too much. If he does care and the guy's asking original pricing, he's full of crap. The stuff you listed above that's non-original is pretty damn obvious. camaros/.org is a good place to check. If you can't find something or you want to check some numbers, send me an e-mail pacecamaro@juno.com. I've probably got a book that'll cover it as long as it's '69 or older.

Thanks guys. All the codes match as far as original 69 Z codes go BUT I wanted to see which one actually came with the car, b\c I really don't like the fact that the transmission's build date is in september when the rest of it is april. I figure somebody along the way killed the original tranny and replaced it with one from a donor car or something. I think the guy is asking 22k or somewhere in there for the car. If i'm not mistaken he was asking more but my step-dad has gotten him down to this. Parents are taking a road trip to see it this weekend.

Tell Ronnie to just find him a SS-396 car . Much cooler IMO.

Z's are the more searched for car though....now myself I would rather be looking for a 69 or 70 Mach 1 with a big block, but that just me.

Well, in Mustangs, a '68 with a Cobra Jet would be my choice .
