i'm planning on buying a set of 3.73 gears for my 2002 WS6 trans am. i've never done a gear swap before. is this something that can be easily done? any special advise or knowledge that anyone can pass along? i think i'm going to buy a package deal from ls1speed.com it has the gears, install kit, TA rearend girdle, and a hypertech powerprogrammer.

thanks

Have someone do it for you. Setting gear lash is tricky and take experience to get right. Get it wrong and you'll chew your expensive gears up quick. This is one of the things best left to the pros (rebuilding an automatic being the other).

yep i'll second that.

I'll third it. Gears and rebuilding my 4l60E are the only mods I didn't tackle myself.

Items and tools you will need

1. Dial indicator to measure Backlash.
2. Hammer @ Pin to hit out Pinion (Don't mess up the threads)
3. 24 millimeter socket to remove pinion nut.
4. A press for your new bearing.
5. A bunch of shims and a brass hammer to tap them in.
6. Someone that knows how to set preload.
7. Lots and Lots of patience
8. Gear paint to see your contact pattern.
9. Pen magnet to get out the C- Clips
10. 8,11,13,15 millimeter and a 10 Millimeter if you have TC
Im sure I missed some things but that about covers it. Hope this helps
Jeff
