LS1 Manual VS. Auto

i have been looking for deals on a used z28 on the internet for a while now, and it is hard to find an LS1 with a manual transmission. There are some z28's with high miles on them for $10k, and one with a salvaged title and 60k miles for $9600. Do you think it would be a good idea to buy one of these or would i be better off getting an LT1 with a manual trans and decent miles on it? How does an auto affect ls1 performance vs a manual, and what would it take to make it equal/beat a manual? I really want a manual, so im in this lt1/ls1 dilemma.

Look at it this way. As an average, a stock LS1 automatic with the addition of an air lid, cut out, headers w/off road pipe, 3500 stall converter and some draglites with ET streets and you have a 11 sec car! I know a guy who has a stripper '02 Z-28 with 2:73 gears to which he added a lid, SY 3500, longtubes, cut out, draglites with skinnys up front and ET streets on the back and in high 60* weather he ran 11.70@114!

I am having the same delima for my next ls1, I can tell you though, for me, the lt1 is out of the question. I am a drag racing freak, can't get enough............... I do prefer a manual well over and automatic. however if i decide to go with a manual, I know that I have to have an additional $2200 for a new 12 bolt rear. the A4 will get you much faster for a lot cheaper! thats for sure! but this next time i believe i am going to get a cheap m6 and take it easy untill i have enough $ for the 12 bolt. I've watched the stock rear ends bust time after time. its not pretty...... I do think its worth it to spend the extra $ on the 12 bolt and go with an m6, if your like me, you will be much much more happier, you just wont be going as fast as the guy with the a4 that has spent the same amount of $$$.

I have an M6 now and am getting ready to swap it out for an A4.. The manual is ok, I have run a best of 12.4, but my short time sucks due to the glass rears in the cars... . If I had the money, I would get a 12bolt, and keep my m6. but for now I am gonna throw a A4 with a convertor and run some 11's

go for the auto LS1 if you want a fast 1/4 mile car. definately cheaper to go fast. i like manual better, that's why i got a 6 speed. but it's been pointed out that the launch is tough, the short times are hard to get and the rear end is gonna give eventually. i really want to get a 12 bolt in a couple years when the warrantee is up and i can afford it. mmm, moser 12 bolt, 4.10's, all the groovy options, rockin!
