I priced them at "Mullinax Ford" (Auto Nation) in Euclid, Ohio 2 weeks ago. The salesman told me that they WON'T try to sell them for more than sticker, to anyone at all. Sticker on all the non convertibles was the same... "$34,750." I didn't look at any convertibles. He even told me they'd deal on them at that dealership, although they wouldn't haggle very much. I was only there to look at new F-250's to begin with, so I didn't look very long at the Cobras. That said, I can get a 2003 F-250 SuperCab 4X4 Powerstoke(7.3 or 6.0L), automatic, longbed, for $34,995+tax, tag and title!!! They sticker at over 38K in that configuration. I also found them for less at another area dealership. One that doesn't sell SVT vehicles.

I'm lost, 6.0 ? You mean the 6.8 V10 , or have I missed something ? They haven't made 6.9 Diesels in years

Edit: Sorry, I see what you're talking about now, I had missed something. Found it here http://www.off-road.com/ford/news/2...bestclasspower/

Ahh yes... It's the all new 6.0 PowerStroke and it is good! 325hp, 560 ft lbs. torque. Ahhhhh..... And it's lighter then the old 7.3 by quite a bit, even though it's a DOHC and it's all iron. I was very surprised to read "DOHC" though, indeed. Anyway, I think I'll get one, so I can make these long hauls with beter economy.

Long hauls pulling a house behind you....lol

It's amazing what you can move with a 1ton Diesel Pickup nowadays . You really can't go wrong with any of the new Diesel pickups IMO.

6.0 Powerstroke 325hp @ 3300 and 560ft/lbs @ 2000 .

HO Cummins 305 @ 2900 and 555ft/lbs @ 1400

Duramax 300 @ 3100 and 520ft/lbs @ 1800

This is prolly going to start a war, but consider the horsepower these Diesels are making, it makes the base gas engines for pickups seem sad (especially one wearing the legendary "HEMI" name) . It is expected for a Diesel to out torque a gas engine, but when Diesels of similar size are almost matching HP, something is wrong doncha think ?...lol

I just looked it up, it isn't a Cammer .

Quote:
The new 6.0-liter Power Stroke V-8 engine is a direct injection, 32-valve diesel with an all-new cast-iron block and cylinder heads. The engine employs a single, block-mounted camshaft in a compact over-head valve (OHV) design, with hydraulic-valve lash adjustment. This proven configuration provides a low-friction and durable valvetrain system and is ideal for engines with a normal operating range of less than 4,000 rpm. This design provides maintenance-free longevity, quiet operation and optimized performance over the life of the engine.

GOOD NEWS! I was askiong why they'd use a DOHC for a diesel and none of the "salesman" could answer... Clearly, they haven't read the Ford direct information provided. Anyway, that's much better than a high revving DOHC. I guess I just think this will have a greater effect on low rpm power and torque than an actual DOHC.

I was also surprised at the high hp from these diesels. I will prolly get ragged too but, the "Durajunk" seems horrible fromthe outset. Not only is it a terribly designed engine but, it's the lowest on torque and, although good on power, needs fairly high (for a diesel) rpm to get there. Maybe I got something backward in my reading, as I was just scanning through. Anyway, the Duramax basically sucks for a new engine. Of course, you could always opt to purchase a Kodiak for upgraded power and torque! hehehehe I've also been told of unreal fuel mileage for the 6.0 Ford.... up to 22mpg on the highway.. That's high for American standards.

If I remember correctly, my uncle told me once that he got about 24mpg running interstate at 80mph in his '95 Dodge with a 5.9 Cummins. He also got 17mpg while pulling a '36 Case CC behind him all the way from Alabama to Indiana.

The Duramax is designed by Izuzu. Not all diesles around the world fit the American standard of diesles, all low RPM no revs. Hell I was amazed, when I was in Germany, I got to drive a Fiat Punto turbodiesle. the little bastard reved to 7000 rpm, and didn't have any trouble running about 120 mph down the autobaun.

Well, I'll put it in perspective. Atleast they ain't no TOYota Tundra gonna get down and grunt like our American trucks

WOW! The guys at the local Dodge dealer told me expect 17-18 from the 5.9, possibly the difference in the HO or maybe they just didn't know. Fuel mileage is one of three reasons I really am leaning toward the diesel. The others being durability and pulling power. Besides, the gas powered 3/4 ton trucks are dog slow anyway, which is "worsened" by their horrible mileage.

I'm bored, lets drag this old topic back up.

Anybody got anything new to add about the new Diesel trucks ?

Posted by: -SS- Rice Killa

notihing new here, except I love to own any of the big three new diesels, they are all bad ass!!! Damn thats a lotta torque!

I took my wife to Amarillo for her birthday last weekend. I fueled up our 2000 Powerstroke Excursion there and reset the trip counter as we pulled out. When we got home, (60 miles) the computer read 22.0 mpg!!!

not too shabby.

It also reads anywhere from 14-16.5 mpg in town.

Posted by: Grape Ape

22mpg is awesome! I've heard the new 6.0L averages about that. The 7.3L I drove wouldn't have gotten that much, but it regularly had a gooseneck trailer attached. Even when not, it wasn't exactly "stock" either.

Long story short, I managed to get mine back in october for MSRP even though there was a dealer markup of 3000 dollars. Sticker price on mine was 34,125.
