I recently read an article where the 4800 Vortec truck heads were mildly ported along with a 590" lift cam produced 428 RWHP.
What are the advantages to using these heads on a LS1?

The 4800 heads have smaller chambers (for the smaller cylinders) so putting them on a 5.7L will raise the compression ratio about 3 or 4 tenths of a point.

OK smaller chamber results in alittle more compression. However
do these heads use the same size valves that are use in the LS1
heads?

As far as I know, the new Vortec engines use the 2.00/1.56 valve sizes. Most of the parts are interchangeable with the LS1.

What would be cool would be to take the crank out of a 4800 and stick it in a 6000, giving you a 4" bore for good value unshrouding and a short stroke for high RPM. I can see that combo being good for an easy 400 HP at 6500 RPM.

Votec heads ROCK! Better chamber design for swirl and better ports. Gotta remember ya need a Vortec bolt pattern intake if yr droppin them on an old Mouse motor.

Different stuff, Steve - the newer Vortecs are based on the LS1 design and are aluminum.

The truck heads & cam will work with your Fbody. I don't know the specs, but if you check Ls1tech.com or Ls1.com I'm sure you can find them as well as several people who have made the swap
