Gathered from MikeT's sig that he doesn't exactly care for AAMCO trannies. I haven't heard anything about 'em, good or bad. Someone care to clue me in?

I'll let Mike T tell his own story. My Dart also has an AAMCO transmission, which was a bit overpriced (I didn't know what was a good price at the time; $1,100 would buy a built race transmission) but has held up just fine.

I had a AAMCO rebuild that cost me roughly $2,000 to replace after 36,000 miles. Funny, cause AAMCO insisted that it was my fuckin CAT makin' that noise. Fuckin pricks.
This was in a '95 Grand Am with 3.1

my freshly rebuilt $1500 aamco tranny is starting to have some of the same problems the old one had before I took it in. Ya its only got maybe 7,000 miles on it. Ya, its under warranty, but I aint takin it back. I don't trust those knobbers to touch my car.
All it has to do is last till I have money for a new daily driver. Then its getting replaced by a probuilt 700r4 or maybe a t-56 if I really feel like a big project.

So who do you guys think builds the best trannies? I'm going to pull the pan and change the filter on the 904 on the Dart, and while I'm in there I plan on eyeballing things to see if everything looks okay. Shifts still feel fairly good and tight, if a bit hard. But I want to be prepared for anything.
