Well, I've almost completed installing the exhaust! One more hanger, and that's done. Three more weekends of wrenching, and it should be back together.

whats a matter Matt? don't own a camera?

If it's gonna take him three WEEKS to install the final hangar... How much time do ya think he's got to learn how to use a digi cam?

My digital camera (it's a cheap one) doesn't focus too well on the underside of a car that's sitting on jackstands, so there isn't much to take a picture of.
I hadn't bothered to spell out what I planned to do in the next three weekends, but here's what I actually plan to do besides putting the finishing touches on the exhaust:
1. Connect the remaining oil and water lines to the turbo.
2. Reinstall the wastegate and connect all the vacuum / boost lines.
3. Connect the electric fuel pump.
4. Get the long wheel studs installed.
5. Find a suitable tube to connect the turbo to the carb.
6. Take care of a bunch of other little details that I've probably overlooked.

hey matt if you need stuff to hook the turbo to the carb with swing by a place that sells commercial truck part for medium to heavy duty trucks. ie 18 wheelers. they should have alot of high temp silicone hose to pick from in srtiaght and bent peices. stuff work great for routing turbos.
and if you still interested in something that say is EFI and DIS let me know.

Wow you're doing this with a carb box and not FI?
Posted by: MadScientistMatt
If I'd started from scratch I probably would try EFI - but I got a head start when a guy on the MML offered me a package deal on the turbo, a manifold with a turbo flange, an Offy intake manifold, and a Holley that had already been prepared for boost.
It might get EFI later - along with a mild cam and a rebuild. If I go with EFI I might just use the MegaSquirt system - an interesting home-brew setup. The computer for a MegaSquirt costs under $200, some assembly required.

yeah megasquirt is kewl. however i found a gm bost code that can run dis and is much simpler to setup. also if from a v6 and the dis is from a v6 youve got my email if you want to chat about it.

Well, if I took out the original distributor, I'd also have to fabricate a crank trigger setup of some sort. Whereas with the original distributor and a batch-fire system, I don't have to worry about the crankshaft position for the EFI, just hook the MegaSquirt up to my tach signal. And, you can tune a MegaSquirt with a laptop while the engine is running, which may be a bit easier if I try to get it sorted out on a test & tune night than trying to burn chips in the pits.

hmm the crank trigger is easy to fabricate. as for tunign belive me the setup on either system will be a pita. however i do belive right out of the bx runnign setup for a 4.3 chvey v6 might net you decent results. just a thought. and the dis is nice to have as well. also how do you plan to retard timing the megasquirt offers no timign controls.megasquirt is fine for NA apps but for boost espcially more then about 4-6 psi youll need spark managment for sure.
djfreggens@aol.com drop me a line.

Timing? Already taken care of. I've got an MSD BTM already installed to handle the timing under boost.
Posted by: MadScientistMatt
Ok, the vacuum lines are dealt with now. I probably could have got more done if I hadn't been running all over the place searching for fittings.
Posted by: funstick
kewl the msd BTM leave something to be desired occasianlly but seem to work fine. best of luck and if you change your midn please do feel free to drop me a line. ive got plenty of info for you to capitalize on.
