Man we just don't have any luck around here. We got the new motor put in my brother's bronco. Got everything hooked up. When we try to start it the starter engages, but can't turn over the motor. Sooooo, we put a new starter in. Same thing. Its got a new battery, thick 2 gauge wires for the ground and power to the starter. We're scratching out heads here.

My brother puts in a new selonoid (sp?) that he had laying around. I turn the key, same thing. I try again a few minutes later, But this time the lights dim and the fuel pump sounds weak.

We figgure something shorted out but not sure what. A few seconds later we hear this sizzling sound, then smoke. Then MORE smoke.

Turns out the selonoid got stuck closed (after the 2nd try  ) and the starter was engange but couldn't turn. The only way to stop it ws by disconnecting the battery. By then that starter was fuckin toasty!

Oh well, 1 melted starter

We still can't figgure out why the motor won't turn over. It cranked before he put on the accesories But they all spun easily by hand.

I'm glad its not my car.

Fly wheel touque converter bind? Can you turn over the motor with a socket and ratchet?

Is that starter correct for that flywheel?

CS I think you've got it. My brother back off the bolts that hold the tranny on, the motor cranks now (with and old starter we had.) However its still binding somewhat. What can be done to fix this?

put the damn converter in all the way. in fact take the tranny out and have the pump looked at. if your lucky nothing was damaged.

Yep I agree gotta make sure the convertor turns on twice on the input shaft. Other neat things that can happen if it's not engaged are kicking out the thrust side in the motor.
