lately my car has done this 2 times..while goin slow (pulling off , goin across a parking lot ect..) the rear end starts clumping and it trys to shift to second but shifts back to first and it does that over and over...its fucking with my head...does it sound like the tranny or rear??

sounds like your rear or torque converter. Try the basics first: Change tranny fluid & filter and change rear oil. Don't forget the Limited slip additive from GM. Maybe you'll get lucky :o

im thinking it might be a problem with the kickdown cable

1st, have you checked the tranny fluid lately? If it's low, this could happen.

I'd think about a tranny service. Prolly not the rear, but change that fluid anyway. I do know a guy who had the same symptoms and in that case, it actually was the rear end. Ya never know till ya tear it down I guess.

I agree with Rob. The kickdown might be so out of adjustment that it is kicking down at low throttle. Take it in to a tranny shop and ask them to take a look. They will only gouge you with $89435 labor for the cable adjustment.:btg:

hmm and what ever happened to checking the U joints ?? talk about the basics. does it sounds like a clunck when you step of the throttle in a low speed coast ? if so check U joints.

The fact that his tranny shifts kinda would make me stray away from that. Although checking the entire driveline isn't a bad idea.

do you have an aftermarket converter? Is it an electronic automatic (no kick down cable, etc) It could be if your TC is radical enough that your TC lockup clutch is getting worn. Its locked through the shift, then hits that gear and can't hold it, feels like its unlocking then tries to lock again?

Could be his torque arm giving him the clunking headache also. The shift problem is in the tranny for sure. Any tranny that has a TV cable will get tempermental and eventually fuck itself with the cable out of adjustment.
