Deleted because some people from Need 2 Speed. com are complete idiots. Click that link and it should take you to my latest pics.

I guess purple doesn't sit well with anyone. When it's really finished, I'll show more pics. I expect it to look much better by then. At least it looks better then when I got it.

Posted by: MikeT

actually I think it looks really good. Did you paint it yourself? I'd like to paint my iroc purple, but a couple shades darker, almost black.

or this color

Posted by: Grape Ape

Me, paint it myself? Bahahaha! Uh, no. I ain't about to paint a car myself. I'd probably WEAR as much as I got to look decent on a car... Then I'd have one fender done... heh

That's a nice looking GTA. The IROC... Purple? But it's already purple.. That looks nice too. And GM actually did that themselves I hear.

Oh, thanks though... I was beginning to think it MUST be ugly! LOL :btg:

Posted by: VETTKLR

Purple, eh? Hmm...have you thought up any nicknames for it?

p.s. you tellin' me you ran 9's with no power steering or A/C? bummer Purple or not, it's gonna look way cool carrying the front wheels past the 60ft mark!!!

Mike, That GTA is hella cool. That's my favorite body style of Fireturd.

Posted by: VETTKLR

Oh yeah.......

Hmmmmmmm...TrickFlow 'R' Heads...

Posted by: Grape Ape

This car has now power steering or A/C and won't. Since it's going to be a track only kinda car, I'll be swapping the cam sometime in the future, so as to make it fast.

I like the GTA too... Who's is it?

Posted by: VETTKLR

wanna' borrow my #99 NX jets?

Posted by: GT500

ur project is looking really good

show us some more pics when its done

Posted by: Grape Ape

Slippin' in the power...

Posted by: Grape Ape

This was taken just before we slipped it in. We did add the left side header before installation. We got it to fit in with some careful work and by leaving the K-member detached, except that it was hanging by the struts. After installation, I bolted that back into place. It had been installed in my 91LX until 5-5-03.

Try this link.

And this one. This one is just a smeared pic.

I didn't think about it at the time, but if that was asking me.... I've already got a rather large N.O.S. kit on it. Jetted for a total of 305hp currently.

Posted by: VETTKLR

I certainly hope you have better luck with your 408 than I'm having with mine.

For some reason, when I tap on the gas pedal, the tach spikes, the speedometer spikes, and the car pivots off to the side immediately. More testing is required on this anomoly...possibly video footage as well.

p.s. those #99's are for the 300 shot on my NX Gemini Twin plate. They will definitely NOT be seeing this motor combination anytime soon!

Man that thing sure is purple! But, looking pretty good. How much did the paint run ya anyway?

VETTE, try adding some sugar in your fuel.

I had some body work done with it... Total was $900. I just wish they'd have FINISHED already.. The bastards.. Hence forth "GRAPE APE" because "Purple Haze" seemed odd and "Barney" seemed gay.

MEAN!

Took this one today... Fuel Pressure reg, right front, top view. Feed line is in the top left of the pic.
Click it

VETT, in the old body, she ran pretty straight. 1st and 2nd gears took some "aiming" but... 3rd was sweet(and 4th when the AOD was in). I think this will go straight too, but ya never know till you're on the track.. I suspect yours pulls right... Adjust that suspension.. And make darn sure your tire pressure is matched.

Another pic

Did you buy that car in Orlando? If so you met a good friend of mine!

PS- Zman's car is called barney and its 2 seconds faster than any of our cars so gay might be a little strong of a word here!!

Barney reminds me of that kids TV show... Since I have no graphics on it, it's just gay!

Bought the car locally and had it painted purple, because the former owner had already painted the roll cage and trim. He also gave me the remaining paint and it was urethane.

If it runs right, D...er... Z-mann will only be about 1 second quicker. Then again, I'm not about to try to go super fast with it. The car prolly can't handle it and I prolly can't either! I'm really only looking to dip into the 8's. Was gonna go for less nitrous and 9.20's, but I've decided to remove it from the street, since I went to the spool.

Looks good man!!!!

Posted by: Grape Ape

Thank you...

We're almost ready to go. Ignition, fuel pump(hoses are run), interior, back to the paint shop for finish work, lights, camera and action... Hopefully it will be ready by June 1.

Gnarly as hell man. What are the specs for the motor? How bout rear suspension?

Thanks! The engine is an A351 based 408 stroker. Fairly low compression(11.39:1) and a small cam(for 408c.i.) because I intended to use it in a daily driver before buying this 87 coupe body. It's topped with an Edelbrock Super Victor 351W intake and a Holley 850DP Annular carb(modified), sitting on TFS Twisted Wedge R Stage II (Total Engine Airflow) heads, and I have a 2 stage N.O.S. plate on it, good for up to 500hp of juice.

The suspension is factory style, adjustable lowers, double adjustable uppers, anti-roll bar(still not installed). The rear is an 8.8" with 33spline axles, spool(why it's off the street), C-clip eliminators, rear end girdle/cover. Currently I have 3.08 gears in it... Until dyno testing, I decided to leave the stock gears in this rear. Tranny is a decently built C6(I broke almost every other tranny I tried). I also have coil overs in front, K-member, adjustable struts, etc...etc...

I was talking to someone visiting yesterday and it occurred to me that the only thing I'm actually using from the original 87 body is just that, the body.. heh

Posted by: OldSchoolPower

<drool> I like how you so "fairly low" compression yet it's better than 11:1. Sounds like it will scream. Any estimates for the dyno run?

Posted by: Grape Ape

I'm hoping to break 525rwhp on motor. That will require additional tuning though, and with this slug of a tranny, I might even have to get the new cam 1st! I hope not, but we'll see. I do expect more than 500 though, with just good tuning.

Posted by: OldSchoolPower

Have you weighed the car by any chance?

Posted by: Grape Ape

Haven't weighed it yet. I expect it to be in the 2600 lb range, possibly lighter. I've gotten almost all the unneeded stuff out. I'm not done though. I expect to remove nearly 100 lbs more. It still has the bumpers, a bit of sound deadenor and, that nasty area behin(ohead of) the dash. I still haven't removed the evap core or heater core. All it will have in it other than necessary pieces will be a light carpet, door skins, and passenger seat(racing seat).

<thumbs up> Keep us updated.

The guy who owns the Chevelle JUST UPGRADED... He got a PINTO!!! But hey, i's true... We're deciding what engine to build for it. He wants a SBC and I told him I'd build him a POWERFUL SBF for it.. hehehehe... He isn't sure which he wants. Btw, it's a chassis car... tubbed, caged, sheet metal and fibderglass... The same guy is going to finish all the wiring on my car... Should be done on Saturday...

It is a nice Chevelle too... BTW, you made no mention of the 98 T/A I have a pic of... what's up with that, CHEBBYBOY??? Or the old (real nice) ProStreeter... Man.. What'd ya do, drool all over the Chevelle and forget the other cars???

Never saw the T/A or anything else (Chevelle excluded) but that POS Rustang! As far as you posting a pic of yourself, that's okay, we understand that you are a bit on the ugly side and all!

Posted by: LS1JAY

Hello, I am a troll. Nice to meet you.

Posted by: EvilLS1

Jinco,
This is a Tech forum. Keep the bullshit in The Pit.

Posted by: z-cori

love the car grape, and I normally don't like those 'stangs. just looks mean in that purple.
Don't you wish the stupid burnt-out rice driven stoners would stick to the pit and let people hae a decent conversation?

P.S. Even though I am a die hard chevy guy, I recommend the SBF for the Pinto, it is a pretty much drop in install. we're doing one in my brothers Bobcat, very slick upgrade.

Posted by: 65fairlane

You guys are using a Bobcat instead of a pinto?? That is sweet.

Posted by: Grape Ape

SWEET! I'll tell my buddy, Dave.. He'll appreciate an added good opinioin! Thanks for the response to the "Grape Ape"....

Now, as for what some trolls wrote.. Well, Idunno what they said, so I can't make them feel as stupid as life itself probably does! But I do hope you saved it ...

Posted by: z-cori

what body style is your buddy's pinto, my brothers is the trunk model 2 door, it's pretty neet and should be quite the sleeper with the 5.0 5 speed.

Posted by: Grape Ape

hatchback... I don't even recall anything but hatchbacks for the Pinto. Ya think they did a Bobcat and NOT a Pinto, inb a trunk model? Can't say I'd remember anyway, since it'sd not on my "most looked for cars" list or anything... heh

Posted by: z-cori

mine either, but my brother never stops talking about them. there was a hatchback, a trunk and those funking wagons. the hatch on tose is almost totally glass, am I right?

thinking about getting either a pinto or a vega for my daughter, something that I can start her out with a turbo 4 banger but has the potential for a healthy 8 when she's ready.

Posted by: Grape Ape

The one on this guys Pinto is glass... Then again, so's the rest of the body... Lexan windows too. It's a race chassis, all the way.

Why get a Pinto or Vega? I mean, if you're going with a turbo 4 idea, and you want a V8 later... Just get a Mustang 2.3T and if you feel like it later, swap engines. The car will not only look better, but it will be newer and hold better value(as opposed to none, right?) for future resale. Besides, you could stick with the 2.3, stroke it to 2.5 and go crazy... 9's have happened for more than a few people. Saves cash...

Posted by: z-cori

I thought about a mustang or a 2.8 camaro (being a chevy guy and all) but they cost a bit more to acquire and replace. plus I'm all about different and those cars would be just too plain.

call me crazy, I just like my cars to stand out.

Posted by: Grape Ape

Then get a Gremlin!! Or a Hornet!!!

Posted by: z-cori

LOL! exactly what I'm looking for!
the pinto's an easy mahine to work on though, I think that's the route I'll go, a 77 wagon probably.

Posted by: 65fairlane

Damn you guys have got me thinking about this pinto sitting in a field down the road from me. I keep asking myself, do I need a 5th junk car around?

Posted by: Grape Ape

Don't look at me... I "lost" my Pinto sometime around 1995!
