I have heard about a cheap alternative to a higher priced stall converter for LS1 powered vehicles.
GM part, out of an S-10. Stall is much higher, and for only like 200 dollars.
Any word on if this is true or not

I haven't heard anything about it.. But from what I've seen you get what you pay for when it comes to converters . I personally wouldn't waste my time installing anything less than a 3200 stall. I made that mistake (had a 2800 before the 3500). You will want more stall.
Swapping converters in these cars is an all day job (on jackstands anyway) so you'll wanna get it right the first time.
If I were you, I'd save up the $$$ and get a Yank or Precision Industries 3200+ stall. Check out http://www.converter.cc/ .

I've got one of those s-10 converters. The stall speed is right about 2000. Probibly a little more on an LS1. Still not enough though.

Mine is a M6, I was just wondering if anyone had heard of this.
I know a couple people looking into it.
Thanks for any help.

I have heard of it in the older cars like the 3rd gen F-bodys. I had a 2500 stall out of a '85 Vette in my Formula 355 (put it in after the motor work) it helped out quite a bit in the L-98 but they have a lot more torque down low than a LS1. The stock one is 1600 if that helps, but like Evil said, a Vig, Yank or midwest 3000+ would be your best bet, the Yank 3500's are great and the Vig 3200 is too since it's under rated by about 400 RPM's it's really a 3600!

Don't get anything but a Yank. They make the best performing and the strongest. I have a Super Stock 3800 stall in mine and I love it. The Super Stock series has much better daily drivability than any other high stall converter. It also has a variable str. The str starts at 2.4 goes up to 2.7 and then backs down a bit. Versus the Super Thruster that has a 2.5 and goes down from there. If you are not planing on going all out in the long run than I would sugjest geting a SS3600 the 3800 is just a little to much for a lightly moded car.
